In 2011 tenants in the free sector and first-time owners allocated more than a quarter of their income to their accommodation expenditure. Among these households, around one out of five spent more than 40% of their income on housing. Households where the debt service ratio is high are most often retired. From 2005 to 2011, the debt service ratio for tenants increased by 2.5 points, while that for owners remained stable.
