Moving house in the same area
Christelle Minodier
Moving house is in large due to family events, and to a lesser extent to work-related changes. Households generally move over a very short distance and one in two households move less than 5 kilometres away from their former home. Longer distances are associated with job transfers. In this case, the move is due to professional reasons, whilst, in the majority of other cases, improved housing conditions is the main reason for moving. However, a significant proportion of households begin to rent housing although they have previously owned their own house and/or have left a house for a flat. In this case, moving house is more a necessity rather than a voluntary decision.
