Sampling method
The sample is drawn from a sampling frame constructed from the Système d'immatriculation au répertoire des unités statistiques (Sirus) according to a simple random sampling plan stratified according to activity, employment bracket, region and type of unit (independent legal unit, profiled company belonging to a foreign/French group with foreign/French subsidiaries) where possible. Allocations are calculated by combining a Neyman allocation based on the rate of innovation and a proportional allocation based on the number of innovative units. This makes it possible, on the one hand, to be precise about the survey's central variable (the rate of innovation) and, on the other hand, to question a reasonable number of innovative units in order to ensure satisfactory precision for questions concerning these units only.
Sample size
13,400 profiled firms
