In July 2026, the decline in business births eased Enterprise births - July 2026

In July 2026, the total number of business births, all types of businesses combined and seasonally and working-day adjusted, fell less sharply than in the previous month (-1.3% after -2.5% in June). Company births fell back (-3.2% after +0.2%), registrations of micro-entrepreneurs fell less sharply than in the previous month (-1.4% after -3.5%), while conventional sole proprietorship births rebounded (+5.3% after -2.4%). In raw data, the total number of businesses created over the last twelve months (August 2025 to July 2026) increased sharply, by 10.8%, compared with the same period one year earlier (August 2024 to July 2025).

In July 2026, seasonally and working-day adjusted, business births decreased in business support activities (-4.3% after -3.7%), household services (-6.8% after -5.5%), real estate activities (-8,3% after +1,7%) and financial and insurance activities (-9.3% after -11.1%). They fell more sharply than in the previous month in accommodation and food service activities (-8.0% after -3.3%). By contrast, they accelerated in transportation and storage (+8.4% after +3.3%) and rebounded in information and communication (+4.6% after -10.3%).

In raw data, the cumulative number of business births from May 2026 to July 2026 increased sharply, by 10.3% compared with the same period one year earlier. Registrations of micro-entrepreneurs rose sharply (+15.4%), while company births increased slightly (+1.7%), as did conventional sole proprietorship births (+0.8%).

Over this period, the sector contributing the most to the increase was business support activities (+13,100 business births compared with the same period one year earlier, i.e. a contribution* of +4.6 points). Within this sector, business births increased particularly in “general cleaning of buildings” (+4,200 business births compared with the same period one year earlier). Conversely, transportation and storage contributed the most to the decline in business births compared with the same period one year earlier (-1,300 business births, i.e. a contribution of -0.5 points).

In raw data, the total number of business births over the last twelve months (August 2025 to July 2026) increased sharply, by 10.8% compared with the same period one year earlier. Registrations of micro-entrepreneurs rose sharply (+13.5%), company births increased to a lesser extent (+6.6%), as did conventional sole proprietorship births (+3.0%).

For June 2026, the monthly change in the total number of business births (all types of businesses combined) was revised downwards by 0.3 points, due to the revision of the raw data and the update of the seasonal adjustment (SA) and working-day adjustment (WDA) coefficients: it stood at -2.5%, compared with -2.2% in the previous publication.
