In June 2026, the total number of business births, all business types combined and in seasonally and working-day adjusted data, partially fell back after the sharp increase in May (-2.2% after +10.6%). Registrations of micro-entrepreneurs decline anew (-3.1% after +13.5%), as did business births among conventional sole proprietorships (-2.7% after +8.6%), while company births slowed (+0.7% after +3.6%). Sharp decline in information and communication, acceleration in construction
In June 2026, in seasonally and working-day adjusted data, business births fell back sharply in information and communication (-10.4% after +25.0%) and more moderately in business support activities (-3.3% after +13.5%) and in household services (-3.6% after +13.1%). By contrast, they accelerated in construction (+5.2% after +2.8%). Business births slowed in transportation and storage (+2.5% after +6.2%).
Sharp increase in business births over the latest three months compared with the same period a year earlier
In raw data, the cumulative number of business births from April 2026 to June 2026 rose sharply by 10.0% compared with the same period one year earlier. Registrations of micro-entrepreneurs increased strongly (+14.8%), company births rose more moderately (+2.1%), while business births of conventional sole proprietorships declined (-1.9%).
Over this period, the sector contributing the most to the increase was business support activities (+14,100 business births compared with the same period one year earlier, representing a contribution* of +5.1 points). Within this sector, business births increased particularly in “general cleaning of buildings” (+4,100 business births compared with the same period one year earlier). Among the other sectors contributing to the increase, information and communication came next (+8,600 business births, or +3.1 points). By contrast, transportation and storage made the largest contribution to the decline in business births compared with the same period one year earlier (-3,700 business births, representing a contribution of -1.3 points).

In raw data, the total number of business births over the last twelve months (July 2025 to June 2026) rose by 11.1% compared with the same period one year earlier. Micro-entrepreneur registrations rose sharply (+13.7%), as did company births (+7.3%), while business births among conventional sole proprietorships rose more moderately (+3.2%).

Revisions
For May 2026, the monthly change in total business births (all business types combined) was revised downwards by 0.1 percentage points, owing to the revision of raw data and the updating of the seasonal adjustment (SA) and working-day adjustment (WDA) coefficients: it now stands at +10.6%, compared with +10.7% in the previous publication.

Business birth statistics distinguish applications for registering self-managed micro-entrepreneur. The term “traditional sole proprietorships” refers to individual businesses excluding micro-entrepreneurs, while “traditional businesses” refers to all businesses excluding micro-entrepreneurs.
