Business births continue to increase in March 2026 Enterprise births - March 2026
In March 2026, the total number of business births, across all types of businesses and in seasonally and working-day adjusted data, continued to increase (+2.6% after +0.8% in February). Registrations of micro-entrepreneurs accelerated (+4.6% after +1.9%), while company births continued to decline (-0.9% after -1.9%), and births of conventional sole proprietorships fell back (-2.5% after +0.3%). In raw data, the total number of businesses created over the last twelve months (April 2025 to March 2026) increased by 9.3% compared with the same period a year earlier (April 2024 to March 2025).

Increase in business support activities
In March 2026, in seasonally and working-day adjusted data, business births increased in business support activities (+2.8% after +0.0%) and in transport and storage (+5.3% after +0.3%). They rebounded in information and communication (+5.3% after -0.5%).
Sharp year-on-year increase in business births over the past three months
In raw data, the cumulative number of business births from January 2026 to March 2026 jumped by 13.3% compared with the same period a year earlier. Registrations of micro-entrepreneurs continued their strong increase (+16.3%), company births rose (+9.1%), and births of conventional sole proprietorships also increased (+3.9%).
Over this period, the sector contributing the most to the increase was business support activities (+15,700 business births compared with the same period a year earlier, i.e. a contribution* of +5.3 percentage points). Within this sector, births increased particularly in “routine cleaning of buildings” (+3,300 business births compared with the same period a year earlier). Conversely, the financial and insurance activities sector was the only major sector contributing to the decline in business births compared with the same period a year earlier (-300 business births, i.e. a contribution of -0.1 percentage point).
Increase in business births over the past twelve months
In raw data, the total number of business births over the last twelve months (April 2025 to March 2026) increased by 9.3% year-on-year. Registrations of micro-entrepreneurs jumped (+10.7%), company births rose (+8.3%), and births of conventional sole proprietorships increased (+2.0%).

Revisions
For February 2026, the monthly change in the total number of business births (all types of businesses combined) has been revised upward by 0.2 percentage points, due to the revision of raw data and the updating of seasonal adjustment (SA) and working-day adjustment (WDA) coefficients: it now stands at +0.8%, compared with +0.6% in the previous publication.
