Business births in December 2025 : an acceleration that concludes a record year Enterprise births - December 2025
In December 2025, the total number of business births — all types of businesses combined and seasonally and working-day adjusted — increased at a faster pace (+3.9% after +0.7% in November). Births of conventional sole proprietorships rebounded (+15.6% after -2.9%), as did company registrations (+5.7% after -3.3%). Registrations of self-managed micro-entrepreneur continued to rise, although at a slower pace than in the previous month (+1.8% after +2.7%). In raw data, the total number of businesses created over the year 2025 rose by 4.9% compared to the year 2024.

Monthly increase in business births, particularly in the business support activities sector
In December 2025, seasonally and working-day adjusted data show that business births accelerated in business support activities (+6.9% after +1.6%), in transportation and storage (+7.2% after +1.9%), and in trade, including motor vehicle and motorcycle repair (+4.3% after +1.8%). In contrast, they continued to decline in the construction sector (-2.5% after -3.1%).
Sharp year-on-year increase in business births over the past three months
In raw data, the cumulative number of business births from October to December 2025 increased by 9.2% compared to the same period a year earlier. Births of conventional sole proprietorships rose (+4.7%), registrations of self-managed micro-entrepreneur surged (+10.1%), as did company registrations (+8.7%).
Over this period, the sector contributing the most to the overall rise was business support activities (+11,900 births compared to the same period a year earlier, contributing +4.2 percentage points). Within this sector, business births rose particularly strongly in “head office activities” (+3,400 births year on year). This increase is partly due to a change in the classification rules for activity codes, with this sector now including units that were previously classified under financial and insurance activities. As a result, the latter is the main contributor to the year-on-year decline in business births (-1,200 births, representing a -0.4 percentage point contribution).
Increase in business births over the past twelve months
In raw data, the total number of business births in 2025 reached 1,170,000, setting a new annual record. This represents an increase of 4.9% compared to 2024. Company registrations rose (+5.9%), as did registrations of individual businesses under the micro-entrepreneur status (+5.9%), while births of conventional sole proprietorships declined (-4.1%).

Revisions
For November 2025, the monthly change in total business births (all types of businesses combined) has been revised upward by 0.3 percentage points, due to the revision of raw data and the update of seasonal adjustment (SA) and working-day adjustment (WDA) coefficients. It now stands at +0.7%, compared to +0.4% as previously published.
