Producer prices in the French industry: +1.7% over a month and +8.2% over a year
In September 2026, over a month, producer prices in the French industry accelerated (+1.7% after +1.2% in August). Prices accelerated for products sold on the French market (+1.7% after +1.0% in August), and they rose at the same rate as in the previous month for those intended for foreign markets (+1.9% as in August). Over a year, producer prices in the French industry also accelerated (+8.2% in September after +6.1% in August).
Excluding energy in the broad sense (hydrocarbons, refined petroleum products, electricity, etc.), producer prices in the French industry increased slightly over a month (+0.3% after stability in August) and accelerated over a year (+3.2% after +2.8%).
HOME MARKET: +1.7% over a month and +6.8% over a year
In September 2026, over a month, producer prices in the French industry for the home market accelerated (+1.7% after +1.0%). Prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water continued to increase (+3.1% as in August) and those of manufactured products accelerated sharply (+1.2% after +0.4%). Over a year, producer prices in the French industry for the home market also accelerated (+6.8% after +4.9% in August and +3.5% in July).
Acceleration of prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water over a year
In September 2026, over a year, prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water accelerated (+10.2% after +6.3%): electricity prices accelerated (+7.5% after +3.9%), as did gas prices even more sharply (+23.4% after +15.8%). The rise in gas prices on wholesale markets is explained by persistent supply disruptions, relatively low stock levels ahead of the heating season and an outage at a Norwegian gas field. This increase is partly the cause of the rise in electricity prices on wholesale markets, combined with relatively low wind and hydropower electricity production in summer 2026.
Sharp acceleration of prices of refined petroleum products over a year
Prices of refined petroleum products accelerated over a month in September 2026 (+17.3% after +5.1% in August). Due to the conflict in the Middle East that began in late February 2026, global oil prices surged in March and then underwent fairly large fluctuations in the following months; they rose sharply in September. Over a year, prices of refined petroleum products accelerated strongly (+92.4% after +68.4%) and were close to their June 2022 level, which was the highest on record (based on data available since January 1995).
