The balance of opinion relative to the economic uncertainty felt by building managers has increased very sharply and has reached its highest level since the series began in 2021, while the one relating to expected prices is stable.

Among building contractors who distinguish their expected activity by type of construction, the balances in new dwelling constructions and in maintenance-improvement have rebounded and have moved closer to their respective long-term averages. In the construction of other new buildings, the balance has fallen back and has moved away from its long-term average.
Entrepreneurs in the sector are anew more pessimistic about the general outlook for the sector than in the previous quarter: the corresponding balance of opinion has fallen back and remains below its long-term average since July 2023.
The balance of opinion on the economic uncertainty felt by building managers has increased very sharply and has reached its highest level since the series began (in 2021). It has strongly drifted away from its mean level.

The balance of opinion on order books has fallen again
In October 2026, the balance of opinion relating to the level of building construction managers' order books has fallen again and has moved away from its long-term average, below which it has remained since July 2024.
The production capacity utilisation rate has decreased for the third consecutive month
In October 2026, the production capacity utilisation rate has decreased for the third consecutive month: at 88.7%, it has moved back below its long-term average.
35% of companies report being at the limit of their production capacity (production bottlenecks), meaning that they would not be able to produce more with their current resources even if they received more orders. This share has decreased by four points compared to September and has returned to its long-term average.
Business managers are slightly more numerous than in the previous month report to facing obstacles limiting their production: at 60%, this proportion is virtually stable, below its long-term average. Building contractors are also slightly more numerous than in the previous month to report facing insufficient demand (39%), their share is almost stable, above its long-term average. However, they are fewer than in the previous month to report facing workforce shortages: at 24%, this share remains below its long-term average. They are slightly more numerous than in the previous quarter to report facing recruitment difficulties (62%), a proportion which stands slightly above its long-term average.
The share of companies that report facing supply-side difficulties only is stable (21%), as well as the share that report facing demand-side difficulties only (19%).
