In August 2026, over a month, producer prices in the French industry continued to increase (+1.2% as in July). Prices slowed slightly for products sold on the French market (+1.0% after +1.3% in July), while they accelerated for those intended for the foreign markets (+1.8% after +1.2% in July). Over a year, producer prices in the French industry also accelerated (+6.0% in August after +4.3% in July).
Excluding energy in the broad sense (hydrocarbons, refined petroleum products, electricity, etc.), producer prices in the French industry were stable over a month (as in July) and continued to increase over a year (+2.7% after +2.6%).

Producer prices in the French industry: +1.2% over a month and +6.0% over a year
In August 2026, over a month, producer prices in the French industry continued to increase (+1.2% as in July). Prices slowed slightly for products sold on the French market (+1.0% after +1.3% in July), while they accelerated for those intended for the foreign markets (+1.8% after +1.2% in July). Over a year, producer prices in the French industry also accelerated (+6.0% in August after +4.3% in July).

Prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water slowed (+2.9% after +3.6%), as did those of manufactured products (+0.4% after +0.7%). Over a year, producer prices in the French industry for the home market accelerated (+4.8% after +3.5% in July and +2.7% in June).
Acceleration in prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water over a year
In August 2026, over a year, prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water accelerated (+6.3% after +3.0%): electricity prices increased (+3.8% after +0.8%) and gas prices increased even more sharply (+15.6% after +9.3%).
Acceleration in prices of refined petroleum products over a year
Prices of refined petroleum products slowed over a month (+5.2% after +14.0%). Due to the conflict in the Middle East that began in late February 2026, global oil prices surged in March and then underwent fairly large fluctuations in the following months: they increased in August, but this increase was offset by the appreciation of the euro against the dollar over the same period. Over a year, prices of refined petroleum products accelerated sharply (+68.9% after +51.3%) and came closer to their April level, which was the highest since the end of 2022.

Acceleration in prices of electronic equipment and machinery over a year
Prices of electronic equipment and machinery accelerated slightly over a month (+0.4% after +0.2%), driven by the rebound in prices of electricity distribution and control apparatus (+1.5% after -0.9%). Over a year, prices of electronic equipment and machinery also accelerated (+2.8% after +1.8%).
Rise in prices of “other industrial products” over a year
Over a month, prices of “other industrial products” were stable (after -0.1%): the rise in prices of industrial gases (+11.8% after -0.7%), in line with the sharp rise in hydrogen prices, was offset by the decrease in those of cement (-4.4% after stability) and fertilisers and nitrogen compounds (-4.6% after -2.7%). Over a year, prices of “other industrial products” continued to increase (+3.8% as in July).
Rise in prices of transport equipment over a year
Prices of transport equipment were stable over a month (after +0.3% in July) and continued to increase over a year (+1.1% after +1.0% in July).
Fall in prices of food and beverages over a year
Prices of food and beverages were stable over a month (after -0.2% in July) and continued to fall over a year (-0.6% after -0.7% in July).

FOREIGN MARKETS: +1.8% over a month and +8.9% over a year
In August 2026, over a month, prices of French industrial products intended for foreign markets accelerated (+1.8% after +1.2%). Over a year, they also accelerated (+8.9% after +6.0%).
Over a month, export prices of manufactured products were stable (after +0.6%), while prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water increased, in line with electricity prices on wholesale markets.
Prices of refined petroleum products slowed over a month (+7.1% after +10.3%).
Prices of “other industrial products” were almost stable over a month (-0.1% after -0.3%).
Prices of food and beverages were almost stable over a month (-0.1% after +0.2%).
Prices of transport equipment fell back over a month (-0.5% after +1.1%), due in particular to the appreciation of the euro against the dollar over the period.
Prices of electronic equipment and machinery fell back slightly over a month (-0.2% after +0.4%): the downturn in prices of wiring devices (-3.1% after +2.3%) was offset by the acceleration in prices of other electronic and electric wires and cables (+1.8% after +0.5%).

In August 2026, over a month, import prices of industrial products continued to increase (+1.0% after +1.2%). Over a year, they accelerated (+9.0% after +7.2%).
Over a month, prices of manufactured products slowed sharply (+0.2% after +1.0%) and prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water increased, driven again by natural gas prices.
Prices of refined petroleum products slowed over a month (+3.3% after +15.1%).
Prices of transport equipment were almost stable over a month (-0.1% after stability).
Prices of electronic equipment and machinery were stable over a month (after +0.6%).
Prices of “other industrial products” were also stable over a month (after -0.3%).
Finally, the fall in prices of food and beverages eased over a month in August (-0.4% after -0.9%): the fall in prices of preserved meat and meat products (-2.1% after -1.2%) was offset by the rise in prices of prepared feeds for farm animals (+4.6% after stability).

Definition–The producer price indices in industry measure the change of producer prices of goods and services, linked to a given industrial activity and sold on the home market or on the foreign markets. The import price indices of industrial products measure the change of transaction prices of goods and services purchased by economic agents established on French territory to non-resident agents.
Calculation method–They are calculated on the basis of the results of the survey “Observation of prices in industry and services” (OPISE), which is operated by INSEE.
