Rise over a quarter

In Q2 2026, buildings’ maintenance and improvement work prices (IPEA) went up by 0.8% over a quarter (after +1.1% in Q1 2026 and +0.3% in Q4 2025). They went up by 1.0% in the residential sector (after +0.8%) and by 0.3% in the non-residential sector (after +1.4%).

Prices rose most sharply for joinery installation (+1.6% as in the former quarter), plumbing, heat and air-conditioning installation (+1.3% after +0.3%), and painting and glazing (+0.8% after +0.9%).

They rose more moderately for electrical installation (+0.4% after +0.7%), floor and wall covering (+0.4% after +0.8%), “other specialised construction activities” (+0.3% after +2.5%) and roofing (+0.2% after +1.6%). They were almost stable for plastering (+0.1% as in the former quarter). Prices fell back for “other construction installation” (-1.1% after +1.2%).

Acceleration over a year

Year on year, buildings' maintenance and improvement work prices accelerated in Q2 2026: +2.1%, after +1.8% in Q1 2026 and +1.2% in Q4 2025. They rose by 2.1% in the residential sector (after +1.6%) and by 2.0% in the non-residential sector (as in the former quarter).

Prices rose most sharply for joinery installation (+3.4% after +2.5%), electrical installation (+2.3% after +2.0%), “other specialised construction activities” (+2.2% after 2.3%), painting and glazing (+2.1% after +2.0%) and floor and wall covering (+1.9% after +1.3%).

They increased more moderately for plumbing, heat and air-conditioning installation (+1.6% after +0.7%), “other construction installation” (+1.5% after +2.0%) and roofing (+1.5% after +2.2%). They fell slightly back for plastering (-0.4% after +0.7%).

Revisions

The quarterly evolution in the IPEA for the first quarter of 2026 is revised downward by 0.1 points, to +1.1%, after taking into account late responses of companies.

The buildings’ maintenance and improvement work price index (IPEA) is a quarterly index which measures the evolution of prices (net of taxes) charged by construction enterprises (including artisanal forms) for their maintenance and improvement works in residential and non-residential buildings during the quarter under review.

The IPEA indices are not seasonally nor working-day adjusted.
