The balance of opinion on order books has increased
In August 2026, the balance of opinion relating to the level of building construction managers' order books has increased, reaching its highest level in two years. It has moved closer to its long-term average.
The production capacity utilisation rate is virtually stable
In August 2026, the production capacity utilisation rate is virtually stable: at 89.6%, it stands above its long-term average.
38% of companies report being at the limit of their production capacity (production bottlenecks), meaning that they would not be able to produce more with their current resources even if they received more orders. This share has gained one point compared to July and has moved away from its long-term average.
Significantly fewer business managers than in the previous month report facing obstacles limiting their production: at 56%, this proportion has decreased and has moved away from its long-term average, reaching its lowest level in more than twenty-five years (April 2000).
They are also less likely than in the previous month to report facing insufficient demand (33%), a share standing at its lowest level since July 2024, just above its long-term average. However, they are more numerous than in the previous month to report facing workforce shortages: at 27%, this share has increased again, getting closer to its long-term average.
The share of companies that report facing supply-side difficulties only has rebounded (23%), while the share that report facing demand-side difficulties only has dropped back (16%).

The business climate in the building construction industry of July 2026 has been revised upward by one point (after rounding). This revision is due the inclusion of late responses from businesses.
