In May 2026, producer prices in the French industry increased slightly (+0.2% after -2.0% in April and +2.3% in March). Producer prices fell again for products sold on the home market (-0.3% after -2.0% in April), while those intended for foreign markets rebounded (+1.3% after -1.8% in April). Over a year, producer prices in the French industry rose by 3.3% in May (after +2.2% in April).

In May 2026, the decline in prices for mining and quarrying products, energy and water eased sharply (-1.2% after -11.0% in April), following those of electricity (-2.7% after -22.4% in April), after the seasonal fall in April. Over a year, prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water increased by 0.2% (after -2.9% in April).
Downturn in prices of refined petroleum products
Prices for refined petroleum products fell back in May (-7.3% after +7.8% in April and +53.1% in March): due to the conflict in the Middle East that began at the end of February 2026, global oil prices had surged in March, then slowed sharply in April, and fell in May. Over a year, prices for refined petroleum products remained in very sharp increase (+65.4% after +76.7% in April).

Further increase in prices of “other industrial products”
Prices of “other industrial products” continued to rise (+0.8% after +1.4%). This increase was driven by higher prices of plastic plates, sheets, tubes and profiles (+8.2% after +6.4%), reflecting the previous rise in oil prices. Over a year, prices of “other industrial products” accelerated (+3.5% after +2.7%).
Slight rebound in food and beverages prices
Prices for food and beverages rebounded slightly over a month (+0.2% after -0.2% in April), driven by the rise in those of prepared feeds for farm animals (+1.4% after +1.0%) and of meat and poultry meat products (+0.9% after -1.8%). Over a year, prices for food and beverages continued to decline (-0.4% after -0.3% in April).
Virtual stability in prices of electronic equipment and machinery and stability in those of transport equipment
Prices of electronic equipment and machinery were virtually stable over a month (+0.1% after +0.3% in April) and continued to rise over a year (+0.7% after +0.8%).Transport equipment prices were stable over a month (as in April) and continued to rise over a year (+1.0% after +0.9% in April).

In May 2026, prices of French industrial products intended for foreign markets rebounded over a month (+1.3% after -1.8% in April). Prices of manufactured products slowed (+0.3% after +1.1% in April), and those of mining and quarrying products, energy and water rebounded very sharply after their strong fall in April: electricity prices on wholesale markets rose again, notably due to sustained electricity consumption driven by high cooling needs during the heatwave at the end of May.
Prices of electronic equipment and machinery rose slightly over a month (+0.2% after being stable in April).
Prices of “other industrial products” slowed over a month (+1.1% after +2.0% in April), due to a slower growth in prices of plastics in primary forms (+4.0% after +23.1%), in line with oil price.
Prices of refined petroleum products fell back over a month (-3.6% after +7.6% in April and +50.0% in March).
Food and beverages prices were almost stable over a month (-0.1% after +0.2% in April), as were those of transport equipment (+0.1% after -0.4% in April).
Over a year, export prices of French industrial products accelerated (+3.6% after +1.6% in April).

In May 2026, import prices of industrial products declined slightly (-0.2% after +2.1% in April). Prices of manufactured products slowed (+0.3% after +1.4%), and those of mining and quarrying products, energy and water fell back in May.
Prices of refined petroleum products fell back in May (-1.2% after +0.5%).
Prices of “other industrial products” slowed over a month (+0.8% after +2.9% in April), due, as for exports, to a slower growth in prices of plastics in primary forms (+5.8% after +32.6%).
Prices of electronic equipment and machinery slowed over a month (+0.2% after +0.6%).

Definition–The producer price indices in industry measure the change of producer prices of goods and services, linked to a given industrial activity and sold on the home market or on the foreign markets. The import price indices of industrial products measure the change of transaction prices of goods and services purchased by economic agents established on French territory to non-resident agents.
Calculation method–They are calculated on the basis of the results of the survey “Observation of prices in industry and services” (OPISE), which is operated by INSEE.
