Producer prices in the French industry: -2.0%
In April 2026, producer prices in the French industry fell after the rebound in March (-2.0% after +2.2% in March and -1.2% in February). Producer prices fell back both for products sold on the home market (-2.1% after +1.9% in March) and for those intended for foreign markets (-1.8% after +3.3% in March). Over a year, producer prices in the French industry rose by 2.0% (after +0.2% in March).
Excluding energy in the broad sense (hydrocarbons, refined petroleum products, electricity, etc.), producer prices in the French industry increased by 0.7% over a month (after +0.3% in March) and by 1.5% over a year (after +0.4% in March).
HOME MARKET: -2.1%
In April 2026, producer prices in the French industry for the home market fell after the rebound in March (-2.1% after +1.9% in March). Prices for mining and quarrying products, energy and water fell back sharply (-10.9% after +0.7% in March), and those for manufactured products slowed down (+0.7% after +2.3% in March). Over a year, producer prices in the French industry for the home market increased by 2.1% (after a stability in March).
Sharp fall in prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water
In April 2026, prices for mining and quarrying products, energy and water fell back sharply (-10.9% after +0.7% in March). They were driven by the sharp fall in electricity prices (-22.1% after -0.2%): as one year earlier, the seasonal decrease in distribution tariffs was compounded by the decline in prices on wholesale markets in connection with the rise in electricity production from renewable sources and the decrease in demand due to mild temperatures. This sharp decline was partially offset by the rise in gas prices (+6.5% after +2.4%) linked to the conflict in the Middle East. Over a year, prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water decreased by 3.1% (after -6.8% in March), mainly due to the 8.2% drop in electricity prices (a decline partly offset by gas prices, which rose by 4.9% over a year).
Downturn in food product prices
Prices for food products fell back over a month (-0.3% after +0.2% in March), driven mainly by the decrease in those of meat and poultry meat products (-2.0% after -0.1%). Prices for food products also fell back over a year (-0.3% after +0.2% in March).
