Sharp rise over a quarter
In Q1 2026, buildings’ maintenance and improvement work prices (IPEA) went up by 1.2% over a quarter (after +0.3% in Q4 2025 and -0.1% in Q3 2025). They went up by 0.9% in the residential sector (after +0.3%) and by 1.5% in the non-residential sector (after +0.4%).
Prices rose most sharply for “other specialised construction activities” (+2.5% after a stability), joinery installation (+1.7% after +0.5%), roofing (+1.5% after +0.2%) and “other construction installation” (+1.2% as the former quarter).
They rose more moderately for painting and glazing (+0.9% after +0.5%), floor and wall covering (+0.9% after +0.1%) and for electrical installation (+0.7% after +0.4%). They rose slightly for plumbing, heat and air-conditioning installation (+0.3% after +0.4%) and were almost stable for plastering (+0.1% after -0.2%).
Acceleration over a year
Year on year, buildings' maintenance and improvement work prices accelerated in Q1 2026: +1.9%, after +1.2% in Q4 2025 and +0.9% in Q3 2025. They rose by 1.7% in the residential sector (after +1.2%) and by 2.0% in the non-residential sector (after +1.2%).
Prices rose most sharply for joinery installation (+2.6% after +1.9%), roofing (+2.3% after +1.3%), “other specialised construction activities” (+2.3% after -0.8%), “other construction installation” (+2.1% after +2.6%), electrical installation (+2.0% after +2.1%) and painting and glazing (+2.0% after +1.9%).
They increased more moderately for floor and wall covering (+1.4% after +1.1%), plastering (+0.8% after +2.1%) and plumbing, heat and air-conditioning installation (+0.7% after +0.6%).
Revisions
The quarterly evolution in the IPEA for the fourth quarter of 2025 is not revised (after rounding) compared to the previous release: it still stands at +0.3%.

The buildings’ maintenance and improvement work price index (IPEA) is a quarterly index which measures the evolution of prices (net of taxes) charged by construction enterprises (including artisanal forms) for their maintenance and improvement works in residential and non-residential buildings during the quarter under review.
The IPEA indices are not seasonally nor working-day adjusted.
