In March 2026, producer prices in the French industry rebounded (+2.4% after -1.2% in February and +1.1% in January). Producer prices rebounded both for products sold on the home market (+2.0% after -0.3% in February) and for those intended for foreign markets (+3.5% after -3.8% in February). Over a year, French industrial producer prices rose by 0.3% (after -3.2% in February).
Excluding energy in the broad sense (hydrocarbons, refined petroleum products, electricity, etc.), producer prices in the French industry rose by 0.4% over a month (after +0.1% in February) and by 0.4% over a year (after +0.1% in February).

Over a year, producer prices in the French industry for the home market rose by 0.2% (after -2.4% in February).
Surge in prices of refined petroleum products
Prices for refined petroleum products rose very sharply in March (+56.8% after +9.8% in February and +0.3% in January), due to the conflict in the Middle East that began on 28 February 2026, leading to a near-closure of the Strait of Hormuz. Over a year, these prices increased by 54.7% (after -10.4% in February).

Rise in prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water and in those of “other industrial products”
In March 2026, prices for mining and quarrying products, energy and water rebounded (+0.7% after -2.2% in February), driven by those of gas (+3.1% after +0.1%), whose prices on wholesale markets rose in March due to the conflict in the Middle East. Over a year, prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water decreased by 6.8% (after -8.9% in February).
Prices of “other industrial products” continued to rise over a month (+0.3% after +0.2% in February), driven by the rise in those of other organic basic chemicals (+9.7% after +1.4%), in line with the sharp rise in oil prices. Over a year, prices of “other industrial products” accelerated (+0.8% after +0.5% in February).
Slight rise in prices of food and beverages and in those of electronic equipment and machinery
Prices for food and beverages rebounded slightly over a month (+0.2% after -0.2% in February): the fall in prices of bread, fresh pastry goods and cakes (-0.9% after -0.6%), due to competition and lower raw material prices, was offset by the acceleration in those of processed and preserved meat (+1.1% after +0.4%). Over a year, prices for food and beverages slowed (+0.2% after +0.8% in February).
Prices of electronic equipment and machinery also rebounded slightly over a month (+0.2% after -0.2% in February), driven by those of other electronic and electric wires and cables, which accelerated (+3.2% after +2.5%). Prices of electronic equipment and machinery continued to rise over a year (+0.3% as in February).
Virtual stability in prices of transport equipment
Prices of transport equipment were virtually stable over a month (+0.1% after +0.2% in February) and continued to rise over a year (+0.9% after +0.7% in February).

In March 2026, prices of French industrial products intended for foreign markets rebounded over a month (+3.5% after -3.8% in February). Prices for manufactured products accelerated (+2.4% after +0.2% in February), while those for mining and quarrying products, energy and water rebounded sharply.
Prices for refined petroleum products rose very sharply over a month (+60.4% after +5.0% in February and +0.5% in January).
Prices of “other industrial products” accelerated over a month (+1.1% after +0.3% in February).
Transport equipment prices rose by 0.7% over a month (after -0.1% in February).
Prices for food and beverages rose over a month (+0.4% after -0.1% in February), driven by the rebound in those of processed and preserved meat (+2.0% after -0.5%) and in those of distilled alcoholic beverages (+1.5% after -0.3%).
Prices of electronic equipment and machinery rose slightly over a month (+0.2% after remaining stable in February).
Over a year, industrial producer prices for foreign markets rebounded slightly (+0.8% after -5.4% in February).

Import prices of industrial products: +6.2%
In March 2026, import prices for industrial products rose by 6.2% (after remaining stable in February). Prices for manufactured products accelerated (+3.3% after +0.6%), while those of mining and quarrying products, energy and water rebounded sharply.
Prices for refined petroleum products rose very sharply in March (+51.9% after +11.2% in February).
Prices of “other industrial products” rose over a month (+0.5% after +0.1% in February), driven by those of plastics in primary forms (+11.7% after +0.4%).
Prices of electronic equipment and machinery also rose over a month (+0.7% after +0.1%).
Prices for food and beverages rebounded in March (+0.4% after -0.2% in February).
Finally, transport equipment prices were virtually stable over a month (+0.1% after -0.1%).

Definition–The producer price indices in industry measure the change of producer prices of goods and services, linked to a given industrial activity and sold on the home market or on the foreign markets. The import price indices of industrial products measure the change of transaction prices of goods and services purchased by economic agents established on French territory to non-resident agents.
Calculation method–They are calculated on the basis of the results of the survey “Observation of prices in industry and services” (OPISE), which is operated by INSEE.

Definition–The producer price indices in industry measure the change of producer prices of goods and services, linked to a given industrial activity and sold on the home market or on the foreign markets. The import price indices of industrial products measure the change of transaction prices of goods and services purchased by economic agents established on French territory to non-resident agents.
Calculation method–They are calculated on the basis of the results of the survey “Observation of prices in industry and services” (OPISE), which is operated by INSEE.
