In the fourth quarter of 2025, in France, occupancy in collective accommodations except campsites, measured in overnight stays, increased by 2.2% compared to its Q4 2024 level. Attendance increased both in hotels (+2.1%) and in holiday and other short-stay accommodations (HOSSA, +2.6%). Over a year, non-resident customers attendance increased significantly (+8.3%), while residents’ one decreased slightly (-0.4%).

In the fourth quarter of 2025, in France, occupancy in collective accommodations except campsites, measured in overnight stays, increased by 2.2% compared to its Q4 2024 level. Attendance increased both in hotels (+2.1%) and in holiday and other short-stay accommodations (HOSSA, +2.6%). Over a year, non-resident customers attendance increased significantly (+8.3%), while residents’ one decreased slightly (-0.4%).

Attendance increased in all hotels categories, except in the unclassified hotels

In the fourth quarter of 2025, hotel occupancy reached 48.7 million overnight stays, that was almost 1 million additional overnight stays compared to Q4 2024. Over a year, non-resident attendance of customers increased by 7.3% (that was almost 1.2 million additional overnight stays), while resident customers’ one decreased by 0.6% (that was almost 200,000 fewer overnight stays).

Only the occupancy in unclassified hotels decreased (‑22.0%) due to the desaffection of both resident and non-resident customers. In all other hotels categories, attendance rose ‒ the higher the category, the sharper the increase (+0.5% in 1- to 2- star hotels, +3.7% in 3- star hotels and +7.3% in 4- to 5- star hotels).

Attendance in hotels was almost stable in mountain areas (+0.2%), but it increased significantly on coastlines (+1.7%) and in other areas (+2.4%). Attendance in hotels rose mainly in high urban density areas (+3.2%), growth was weaker in rural areas (+0.3%).

Business attendance in hotels declined sharply in Q4 2025 (‑9.7% compared to Q4 2024, that was 1.7 million fewer overnight stays in hotels), confirming the downward trend observed since the health crisis. This decline impacted even more intermediate urban density areas (‑13.1%) than high urban density areas (‑8.2%).

Non-resident customers drove the attendance increase in hotels

Non-resident customers in hotels increased sharply in Q4 2025 compared to the Q4 2024 level (+7.3%). United Kingdom and United States are the first countries of origin. Among European customers, Belgian tourists recorded the highest increase in attendance (+11.8%, that was 110,000 additional overnight stays).

Outside Europe, Asia-Oceania attendance of customers also increased sharply (+19.5%, that was 430,000 additional overnight stays), especially from Middle East (+230,000 overnight stays) and China (+120,000 overnight stays). It was also very dynamic from United States (+9.2%, that was 220,000 additional overnight stays).

Attendance in holiday and other short-stay accommodations increase was only driven by non-resident customers

In Q4 2025, attendance in holiday and other short-stay accommodations (HOSSA) of metropolitan France reached 16.9 million overnight stays. It increased by 2.6% compared to its Q4 2024 level, that was 450,000 additional overnight stays. This rise was only due to non-resident customers (+13.6%), while resident customers attendance was stable. Attendance increased both in tourism residences (+2.8%) and in other short-stay accommodations (+2.0%).

Attendance increased in mountain areas (+7.6%) and out of coastline and mountain areas (+2.9%), but it decreased on coastline (‑3.1%). Overnight stays rose in rural areas (+8.0%) and in high urban density areas (+2.1%) but it decreased in intermediate urban areas (‑4.5%).

Attendance evolution over a year in collective accommodations in Q3 2025 has been confirmed by final data at +2.9%.

Holiday and other short-stay accomodations (HOSSA) cover activity code 55.20Z (« Touristic accomodations and other short-stay accomodations »): this category includes, among others, tourist and hotel residences, holiday villages, family holiday centres, international residential centres, sports centres, youth hostels, etc. Data on campsites are published only with the third quarter results, which corresponds to the peak season for this type of accommodations; campsite occupancy during the other quarters remains very limited.
