In August 2025, producer prices in the French industry fell back (-0.4% after +0.7% in July and +0.1% in June). Producer prices decreased anew for products sold on the home market (-0.2% after +0.5% in July), and even more sharply for those intended for foreign markets (-0.9% after +1.1%). Over a year, French industrial producer prices fell by 0.4% after a stability in July.
Excluding energy in the broad sense (hydrocarbons, refined petroleum products, electricity, etc.), producer prices in the French industry were virtually stable over a month (-0.1% as in July) and continued to increase over a year (+0.7% as in July).

Producer prices in the French industry: -0.4%
In August 2025, producer prices in the French industry fell back (-0.4% after +0.7% in July and +0.1% in June). Producer prices decreased anew for products sold on the home market (-0.2% after +0.5% in July), and even more sharply for those intended for foreign markets (-0.9% after +1.1%). Over a year, producer prices in the French industry for the home market were virtually stable (+0.1% after +0.5% in July).
Strong drop in prices of refined petroleum products
In August 2025, prices for refined petroleum products fell back strongly over a month (-5.8% after +3.9% in July), following world oil prices. Over a year, prices of refined petroleum products continued to fall sharply (-11.9% after -14.6% in July).
Moderate decline in prices of electronic equipment and machinery and in those of mining and quarrying products, energy and water
Prices of electronic equipment and machinery decreased over a month (-0.6% after -0.1% in July), due to a further drop in prices of electronic components (-4.1% after -2.0%), driven by lower demand in the automotive sector. Over a year, prices of electronic equipment and machinery fell back (-0.4% after +0.4% in July).
Prices for mining and quarrying products, energy, and water fell back slightly over a month (-0.2% after +2.0% in July). The rise in prices of electricity (+0.7% after +4.1% in July) was offset by lower prices in trade services of gas through mains (-1.2% after +1.6%), linked to prices on wholesale markets. Over a year, prices of mining and quarrying products, energy, and water declined for the twenty-first consecutive month (-3.6% after -1.8%).

Virtual stability in prices of “other industrial products” and stability in prices for food and beverages and for transport equipment
Prices of “other industrial products” were virtually stable over a month (+0.1% after -0.2% in July). Over a year, they continued to rise (+0.8%, as in July).
Prices for food and beverages were stable over a month (after -0.2% in July): the rebound in prices of dairy and cheese products (+0.5% after -1.1%) was offset by the further drop in prices of prepared feeds for farm animals (-1.3% after -1.1% in July). Over a year, prices for food and beverages slowed slightly (+2.9% after +3.0%).
Prices of transport equipment were also stable (after +0.6% in July) and continued to rise over a year (+1.0% after +0.9% in July).

FOREIGN MARKETS: -0.9%
In August 2025, industrial producer prices for foreign markets fell back over a month (-0.9% after +1.1%). The fall in prices for manufactured products eased slightly (-0.2% after -0.3% in July), while those for mining and quarrying products, energy and water fell back strongly, due to the important drop in spot electricity prices on wholesale markets.
Prices for refined petroleum products fell back as well in August (-3.7% after +1.0% in July). Those for transport equipment decreased slightly (-0.2% after a stability in July).
Prices for electronic equipment and machinery were virtually stable over a month (-0.1% after -0.5% in July), as well as those of “other industrial products” (-0.1% after -0.4% in July).
Finally, prices for food and beverages were stable (after +0.4% in July): the rebound in prices of dairy and cheese products (+1.0% after -0.5% in July) was offset by a further decline in prices of wine from grape (-0.4% after -0.5%) and in those of processed and preserved meat (-0.8% after -1.0%).
Over a year, the fall in industrial producer prices for foreign markets intensified (-2.0% after -1.4% in July).

Import prices of industrial products: -0.6%
In August 2025, the decline in import prices for industrial products intensified (-0.6% after -0.3%). Prices for manufactured products decreased (-0.5% after a stability in July), and those of mining and quarrying products, energy and water continued to fall, following crude oil prices and spot electricity prices.
Prices for refined petroleum products fell back sharply over a month (-4.9% after +1.9% in July). Those for electronic equipment and machinery declined more strongly than in the previous month (-0.5% after -0.1%), driven by the drop in prices of communication equipment (-1.3% after +0.7%).
Prices of “other industrial products” were virtually stable (-0.1% after -0.4%). The drop in prices of basic iron and steel and ferro-alloys (-1.1% after a stability in July) was offset by a further increase in those of other organic basic chemicals (+0.8% after +0.6%).
Food and beverages prices remained stable over a month (as in July). Prices for transport equipment were stable as well over a month (after +0.4% in July).
Over a year, import prices for industrial products continued to fall in August 2025 (-2.1% after -2.0% in July).
