In the second quarter of 2025, in France, occupancy in collective accommodations except campsites, measured in overnight stays, increased by 5.4% compared to its Q2 2024 level. Attendance increased both in hotels (+5.2%) and in holiday and other short-stay accommodations (HOSSA, +6.1%). Over a year, attendance increased more for non-resident customers than for resident customers.

In the second quarter of 2025, in France, occupancy in collective accommodations except campsites, measured in overnight stays, increased by 5.4% compared to its Q2 2024 level. Attendance increased both in hotels (+5.2%) and in holiday and other short-stay accommodations (HOSSA, +6.1%). Over a year, attendance increased more for non-resident customers than for resident customers.

Attendance increased in allhotels categories, except in the low-range hotels

In the second quarter of 2025, hotel occupancy reached 60.3 million overnight stays, that was almost 3 million additional overnight stays compared to Q2 2024. Over a year, attendance for resident customers increased by 1.9% (that was almost 700,000 additional overnight stays), that for non-resident customers by 10.9% (that was almost 2.3 million additional overnight stays).

Only the occupancy in low-range hotels decreased (‑13.0%) due to the disaffection of both resident and non-resident customers. In all other hotels categories, attendance rose - the higher the category, the sharper the increase (+2.3% in 1- to 2- star hotels, +6.6% in 3- star hotels and +10.7% in 4- to 5- star hotels).

Attendance in hotels increased in all touristic areas (+3.6% on coastlines, +3.0% in mountain areas and +6.1% in other areas). Attendance also rose regardless of the area density, but the increase is higher in densely urban areas (+7.3%) than in intermediate urban areas (+3.2%) and in rural areas (+1.6%).

Business attendance in hotels confirmed the downward trend observed since the health crisis, continuing declining in Q2 2025 (‑9.9% compared to Q2 2024, that was 2 million fewer overnight stays in hotels). This decline affected both urban and rural areas.

Non-resident attendance of customers increased significantly in hotels

Non-resident customers’ overnight stays in hotels increased sharply in Q2 2025 compared to the Q2 2024 level (+10.9%), regardless of the customers’ origin. Among European customers, German tourists recorded the highest increase in attendance (+15.6%, that was 300,000 additional overnight stays).

Outside Europe, United States attendance of customers also increased sharply (+16.3%, that was 500,000 additional overnight stays), as that from Asia-Oceania (+12.3%, that was 300,000 additional overnight stays).

Attendance in holiday and other short-stay accommodations was higher compared to its Q2 2024 level

In Q2 2025, attendance in holiday and other short-stay accommodations (HOSSA) of metropolitan France reached 23.2 million overnight stays. It increased by 6.1% compared to its Q2 2024 level, that was 1.3 million additional overnight stays. This rise was due to the increase in both resident customers (+5.2%) and non-resident (+10.0%). Attendance increased both in tourism residences (+7.0%) and in other short-stay accommodations (+3.8%).

It increased in all touristic areas (+2.6% on coastlines, +3.5% in mountain areas and +9.8% in other areas). Overnight stays also rose regardless of the area density (+8.0% in densely urban areas, +3.7% in intermediate urban areas and +5.9% in rural areas).

Revision

Compared to provisory data published on 21 May 2025, attendance evolution over a year in collective accommodations except campsites in Q1 2025 has been revised downwards (‑1.9% instead of ‑1.5%). This revision is due to late answers received from surveyed companies.
