Producer prices in the French industry: -0.8%
In May 2025, the fall in producer prices in the French industry slowed (-0.8% after -3.9% in April and -1.1% in March). The decline in producer prices slowed more significantly for products sold on the French market (-0.8% after -4.2%) than for those intended for foreign markets (-0.5% after -2.8% in April). Over a year, the French industrial producer prices also continued to decrease (-0.7% after -1.3% in April and -0.1% in March).
Excluding energy, the producer prices in the French industry were virtually stable over a month (-0.1% after -0.3% in April) and were up over a year (+0.9% after +1.2% in April).
HOME MARKET: -0.8%
In May 2025, the fall in producer prices in French industry for the home market softened significantly over a month (-0.8% after -4.2% in April): the drop in prices for mining and quarrying products, energy, and water eased very sharply (-3.4% after -14.7%), while prices of manufactured products were virtually stable (-0.1% after -0.5% in April). Over a year, the producer prices in the French industry for the home market rose slightly after seventeen consecutive months of decline (+0.2% after -0.7% in April and -0.2% in March).
Fall in prices for mining and quarrying products, energy and water, for refined petroleum products and for “other industrial products”
In May 2025, the fall in prices for mining and quarrying products, energy, and water slowed down sharply (-3.4% after -14.7% in April), following a drop in electricity prices (-5.8% after -24.3%). Episodes of negative electricity prices were even observed, in particular during the May bank holidays when demand decreased and solar production was abundant. Over a year, prices for mining and quarrying products, energy, and water fell for the eighteenth consecutive month (-2.2% after -4.4%), mainly due to electricity prices.
Prices of refined petroleum products continued to fall over a month, but to a much lesser extent (-1.0% after -7.8% in April): the decline in world oil prices was slightly reinforced by the euro's appreciation against the dollar over the same period. Over a year, prices of refined petroleum products continued to fall sharply (-20.7% after -26.3% in April).
Prices for “other industrial products” fell slightly over a month (-0.2% in May after -0.3% in April). They were driven down by lower prices for other organic basic chemicals (-3.1% after -8.0%), following lower oil prices, and by a drop in prices for essential oils (-14.8% after -2.2%). Over a year, prices for “other industrial products” rose by 0.8% (after +1.1% in April).

Slight rise in food and beverages prices
Prices of food and beverages continued to rise in May (+0.2% after +0.3% in April), following prices for processed and preserved meat (+2.4% after +3.0%). This rise in prices is due to increased demand for beef, partly linked to the May bank holidays, and to reduced supply. Over a year, food and beverages prices were up (+3.1% after +3.2% in April).
Virtual stability for prices of electronic equipment and machinery and of transport equipment
Electronic equipment and machinery prices were virtually stable over a month (-0.1% after -0.3%). Over a year, they rose by 0.5% (after +0.9% in April).
Prices of transport equipment were also virtually stable over a month (-0.1% after a stability in April). Over a year, they continued to rise slightly (+0.3% after +0.4%).
