Producer prices in the French industry: -3.9%
In April 2025, the overall producer prices in the French industry intensified (-3.9% after -1.1% in March and stability in February). The fall in producer prices was strongly accentuated for products sold on the French market (-4.3% after -0.5%), and continued for those intended for foreign markets (-2.8% as in March). Over a year, the French industrial producer prices decreased (-1.3% after -0.1% in March and stability in February).
Excluding energy, the producer prices in the French industry fell over a month (-0.3% after +0.1% in March), following six consecutive months of increases, and slowed over a year (+1.2% after +1.6% in March).
HOME MARKET: -4.3%
In April 2025, the fall in producer prices in the French industry for the home market intensified sharply over a month (-4.3% after -0.5% in March): the drop in prices for mining and quarrying products, energy, and water intensified significantly (-14.7% after -1.2%), and it continued for manufactured products (-0.5% after -0.3% in March). Over a year, the producer prices in the French industry for the home market fell for the seventeenth consecutive month (-0.8% after -0.2% in March and -0.9% in February).
Very sharp drop in prices for mining and quarrying products, energy and water and for refined petroleum products
In April 2025, prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water fell sharply (-14.7% after -1.2% in March and -1.1% in February). This decline was driven by a very clear drop in electricity prices (-24.4% after -2.6%): the seasonal reduction in distribution tariffs was compounded by a drop in wholesale prices due to higher wind and solar power generation, a high availability of nuclear power and a lower demand caused by mild temperatures. Over a year, prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water fell for the seventeenth consecutive month (-4.5% after -2.1%), mainly reflecting lower electricity prices.
Prices of refined petroleum products continued to fall over a month (-8.4% after -9.3% in March): the decline in world oil prices accelerated in April, and was further reinforced by the euro's appreciation against the dollar, which also intensified over the same period. Over a year, these prices fell sharply (-26.8% after -17.5% in March).
Fall in prices of “other industrial products” and in electronic equipment and machinery
Prices for “other industrial products” fell over a month (-0.4% after +0.1%), driven by a decline in prices for other organic basic chemicals (-8.2% after -0.2%), following lower oil prices. Over a year, prices for “other industrial products” rose by 1.0% (after +1.7% in March).
Prices for electronic equipment and machinery also fell over a month (-0.2% after +0.2%). Over a year, they increased by 1.0% (after +1.1% in March).
