In January 2025, the overall producer prices in the French industry accelerated slightly (+0.9% after +0.7% in December and +3.0% in November). Producer prices slowed slightly for products sold on the French market (+0.7% after +0.9%) and accelerated for those intended for the foreign markets (+1.3% after +0.4% in December). Over a year, the French industrial producer prices fell for the nineteenth consecutive month (-1.0% after -2.5% in December and -3.4% in November).
Excluding energy, the producer prices in the French industry accelerated over a month (+0.8% after +0.2% in December), and over a year (+1.5% after +0.9% in December).

Producer prices in the French industry: +0.9%
In January 2025, the overall producer prices in the French industry accelerated slightly (+0.9% after +0.7% in December and +3.0% in November). Producer prices slowed slightly for products sold on the French market (+0.7% after +0.9%) and accelerated for those intended for the foreign markets (+1.3% after +0.4% in December). Over a year, the French industrial producer prices fell for the nineteenth consecutive month (-1.0% after -2.5% in December and -3.4% in November).
Excluding energy, the producer prices in the French industry accelerated over a month (+0.8% after +0.2% in December), and over a year (+1.5% after +0.9% in December).
HOME MARKET: +0.7%
In January 2025, the producer prices in the French industry for the home market slowed slightly over a month (+0.7% after +0.9% in December): prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water were virtually stable (-0.1% after +2.8%) after six consecutive months of increases, and those of manufactured products accelerated (+1.1% after +0.1% in December). Over a year, the producer prices in the French industry for the home market fell for the fourteenth consecutive month (-2.1% after -3.8% in December and -4.7% in November).
Strong rebound in prices of refined petroleum products
Prices of refined petroleum products rebounded strongly over a month (+9.2% after -1.2% in December): world oil prices rose sharply in January, reinforced by the depreciation of the euro against the dollar over the same period. Over a year, they fell by 1.5% (after -8.0% in December).
Acceleration in prices of food and beverages
Prices of food and beverages accelerated in January (+0.8% after +0.5% in December), driven by the rebound of those of breads, fresh pastry goods and cakes (+1.8% after -0.1%) and dairy and cheese products (+1.1% after -0.1%). Over a year, food and beverages prices rose by 1.9% (after +0.7% in December).

Rise in prices of “other industrial products”, in those of transport equipment and in those of electronic equipment and machinery
Prices of “other industrial products” rose over a month (+0.6% after remaining stable), driven by the increase in prices of basic chemical products (+4.2% after -0.2%). Over a year, prices of “other industrial products” rose by 1.2% (after +0.8%).
Prices of transport equipment also rose over a month (+0.6% after remaining stable). Over a year, they rose by 0.8% (after +0.5%).
Prices of electronic equipment and machinery are also up over a month (+0.7% after remaining stable). Over a year, they rose by 1.1%, as in December.
Virtual stability in prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water
In January 2025, prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water were virtually stable (-0.1% after +2.8% in December and +13.5% in November): the fall in electricity prices (-1.0% after +5.1%) was offset by the rebound in prices of waste collection, treatment and disposal services, materials recovery services (+2.0% after -1.2%), partly linked to the usual price revisions at the beginning of the year. Over a year, prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water fell for the fourteenth consecutive month (-8.9% after -12.1%), mainly due to the fall in electricity prices.

FOREIGN MARKETS: +1.3%
In January 2025, the industrial producer prices for the foreign markets accelerated over a month (+1.3% after +0.4% in December). Prices of manufactured products accelerated (+1.1% after +0.3% in December), as those of mining and quarrying products, energy and water.
Prices of refined petroleum products rose sharply in January (+7.3% after remaining stable in December). Prices for transport equipment accelerated over a month (+2.3% after +0.6%).
Prices for “other industrial products” rose slightly over a month (+0.2% after +0.1%), driven by prices of luggages, handbags and the like, saddlery and harness (+5.5% after remaining stable), mainly due to taking rising labour costs into account. Prices for food and beverages continued to rise over a month (+0.5% as in December), as did those of electronic equipment and machinery (+0.4% after +0.3%).
Over a year, the industrial producer prices for the foreign markets accelerated (+2.3% in January after +1.4% in December).

Import prices of industrial products: +1.1%
In January 2025, the import prices for industrial products rose (+1.1% after +0.1% in December). Prices of manufactured products accelerated (+0.5% after +0.2% in December), and those of mining and quarrying products, energy and water rebounded.
Prices of refined petroleum products accelerated sharply in January (+6.4% after +1.3%).
Prices of food and beverages accelerated over a month (+1.4% after +0.2%), as did those of processed and preserved meat (+3.5% after +2.0%) and cocoa, chocolate and sugar confectionery (+3.7% after +2.7%). Prices for electrical, computer, and electronic equipment and machinery slowed slightly (+0.3% after +0.5%).
Lastly, transport equipment prices were virtually stable over a month (+0.1% after -0.4%), as were those of “other industrial products” (-0.1% after remaining stable).
Over a year, the import prices for industrial products accelerated in January 2025 (+1.8% after +0.6% in December).
