From this publication onwards, the weighting structure of the BT10 index « Plastic coatings » and BT 46 index « Painting, wall hanging, wall coverings » is updated in order to better take into account the costs incurred in these activities.
The new detailed composition are detailed in the notice published in the Official Journal referring to the release of the indices for October 2024 and in the methodological note Composition détaillée des index BT en base 2010.
The monthly evolutions in October 2024 of the BT10 and BT46 index are calculated from their new weight structure and are chain-linked to their September 2024 value in order to obtain the October 2024 value, without revising previously disseminated values.

Definition
The Construction of buildings indices, Civil engineering indices, the Miscellaneous indices for construction and the index for updating material assets in construction are producer cost indices of different activities in the construction sector, mainly used for escalating contracts.
Calculation method
The methodological documentation is available on the “Documentation” tab.
Uses
Businesses and local authorities may use these official indices published in the Official Journal for escalating construction work bids, by selecting the activity that is closest to the subject of their bid. In contracts signed before the publication of the indices in the Official Journal of 16 January 2015 the former series have to be used until September 2014 inclusively, and, since October 2014 inclusively, the former series can be expanded by chain-linking it with the latter one. The result is to be rounded off to one decimal place.
