On all markets (French market and foreign markets), producer prices in industry fell back in April 2018 (−0.6% after +0.3% in March). Year over year, they decelerated slightly (+1.7% after +2.0% in March).

On all markets (French market and foreign markets), producer prices in industry fell back in April 2018 (−0.6% after +0.3% in March). Year over year, they decelerated slightly (+1.7% after +2.0% in March).
FRENCH MARKET: −0.7%
In April 2018, French producer prices in industry for the French market fell back (−0.7% after +0.4% in March), due to the decline in prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water.
Stong rise in prices of refined petroleum products
In April, the prices of refined petroleum products took off (+9.4% after +1.9%), in the wake of the oil price. The increase was especially marked for gas oil and super-grade fuels. Year over year, prices of refined petroleum products gathered pace (+16.3% after +9.8% in March).
Seasonal fall in prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water
The prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water prices fell back significant as each year in April (−5.0%), due to changeover to summer rates for electricity transport and, to a lesser extent, to the decreases in prices for electricity, mainly on wholesale. Year over year, the prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water gathered pace (+4.3% after +6.0%).
Moderate decline in food prices
In April, food prices fell back (−0.2% after +0.2%). Main rises involved processed and preserved meat, and also egg products, due to the end of Fipronil crisis. Year over year, food products stabilized, after a growth of 0.5% in March.
Virtualy stability in prices of “other industrial products”
In April, the prices of “other industrial products” were almost unchanged (+0.1% after +0.2%). Prices grew slightly for basic metal products and pulp, paper and paperboard. Year over year, prices of “other industrial products” increased by 1.5% (+1.7 in March).
FOREIGN MARKETS: −0.3%
In April 2018, the producer prices of French industrial products sold on foreign markets decreased (−0.3%) after a virtualy stability in the previous month. Price of manufactured products rised slightly (+0.2%) due to the increase of prices of refined petroleum products (+7.0%). Prices of other sectors were virtually stable. Year over year, export prices of industrial products were unchanged (after +0.3%).
Import price indices of industrial products: +0.6% in April
In April 2018, the import prices of industrial products rose again (+0.6% after +0.2%) mainly due to the refined petroleum product price rise and to a lesser extent to that of food products and other industrial products. Year over year, import prices sped up (+1.1% after +0.4%).
