On all markets (French market and foreign markets), producer prices in industry went up slightly in February 2018 (+0.2% after −0.1% in January). Year over year, they gathered pace (+1.1% after +0.6% in January).
Producer prices in French industry: +0.2% in February 2018
On all markets (French market and foreign markets), producer prices in industry went up slightly in February 2018 (+0.2% after −0.1% in January). Year over year, they gathered pace (+1.1% after +0.6% in January).
FRENCH MARKET: +0.1%
In February 2018, French producer prices in industry for the French market were almost unchanged (+0.1% after being stable in January). Mining and quarrying products, energy and water price rise was almost offset by manufactured good price decline.
Sharp downturn in prices of refined petroleum products
In February, the prices of refined petroleum products shrank (−6.0% after +4.7%), in the wake of the oil price. The decrease involved all refined petroleum products and more specifically gas oil and super-grade fuels. Year over year, prices of refined petroleum products stalled (+0.9% after +8.4% in January).
Rebound in prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water
In February, mining and quarrying products, energy and water prices bounced back (+1.7% after −1.6%), due to the growth in prices of electricity on the wholesale markets and, to a lesser extent, of that of electricity supply prices. Year over year, the prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water accelerated (+3.7% after −0.3%).
Stability in food prices
In February, food prices were stable (after −0.4%). Price variations ranged from +0.7% for bread, fresh pastry goods and cakes to −0.8% for preserved fish. Prices of “other food products” also declined due to the downturn of egg prices after the fripronil crisis. Year over year, food products prices slowed down again (+0.4% after +0.8% in January and +1.2% in December 2017).
Rise in prices of “other industrial products”
In February, the prices of “other industrial products” kept increasing (+0.3%, after +0.5%). Chemical product prices rose for the seventh month in a row. Prices of other products also increased except for those of textile industry. Year over year, prices of “other industrial products” went up by 1.8%.
FOREIGN MARKETS: +0.3%
In February 2018, the producer prices of French industrial products sold on foreign markets bounced back (+0.3% after −0.4%). Those of manufactured good were virtually stable. The sharp decline in prices of refined petroleum products and, to a lesser extent, of those of electrical and electronical equipments was partly offset by the rise in prices of “other industrial products”. Year over year, export prices of industrial products kept decreasing (−0.3% after −1.4% in January).
Import price indices of industrial products: −0.7% in February
In February 2018, the import prices of industrial products declined (−0.7% after +0.4%) mainly due to the refined petroleum product price decrease. Year over year, import prices stabilised (−0.1% after +0.9%).
