In November 2017, the sales volume in overall trade recovered (+1.3%) after a decrease in October (−0.8%). It recovered strongly in retail trade (+3.2% after −2.2%). It picked up slightly in wholesale trade (+0.4% after −0.5%). By contrast, it was practically unchanged in trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (−0.1% after +1.0%).

In November 2017, the sales volume in overall trade recovered (+1.3%) after a decrease in October (−0.8%). It recovered strongly in retail trade (+3.2% after −2.2%). It picked up slightly in wholesale trade (+0.4% after −0.5%). By contrast, it was practically unchanged in trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (−0.1% after +1.0%).

The sales volume in overall trade rose by 0.8% over the last three months

Over the last three months (September to November), the sales volume in overall trade went up by 0.8% compared to the previous three months. It rose in retail trade (+1.7%) – it increased in specialised stores (+1.7%), in non-specialised stores (+1.5%) and more strongly in retail trade not in stores (+2.9%). It also went up in retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (+1.4%) and more slightly in wholesale trade (+0.2%).

The sales volume rose by 4.3% over a year

Over the last three months, the sales volume in overall trade grew by 4.3% over a year. It increased markedly in all sectors. It rose by 3.8% in wholesale trade. It also rose sharply in retail trade (+4.4%) – it grew in specialised stores (+4.4%) and non-specialised stores (+2.9%) as well as in retail trade not in stores (+11.8%). It went up substantially in trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (+6.5%).

Sharp rebound in sales volume of retail trade

In November 2017, the sales volume in retail trade recovered strongly (+3.2% after −2.2% in October), especially for the specialised stores (+3.9% after −2.5%). In particular, the sales volume went up in specialised stores of other goods (clothing, shoes etc.; +4.1% after −3.0% in October), in retail of other household equipment (+4.9% after −2.2%) and in retail of cultural and recreation goods (+5.6% after −3.4%). In non-specialised stores, the sales volume recovered sharply (+2.3% after −2.1%).

According to the first early estimates, the sales volume in retail trade except of motor vehicles and motorcycles should decrease in December 2017 (−0.7%). It should grow by 3.8% year-on-year.

Rebound in wholesale trade

In November 2017, the sales volume in whosesale trade picked up slightly (+0.4% after −0.5% in October). It bounced back especially in wholesale on a fee or contract basis (+1.4% after −1.7%). It increased again in other specialised wholesale (+1.1% after +1.2%) and in wholesale of agricultural raw materials and live animals (+2.7% after +4.8%). It recovered slightly in wholesale of household goods (+0.2% after −0.8%). By contrast, the sales volume fell back in wholesale of food, beverages and tobacco (−1.4%) after a virtual stability in October.

Virtual stability in sales volume of trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles

In November 2017, the sales volume in trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles was practically unchanged after an increase of 1.0% in October. It fell back in sale of motor vehicle (−0.5% after +0.7%). It increased again in sale of motor vehicle parts and accessories (+0.8% after +1.7%) and in sale and repair of motorcycles (+0.4% after +2.3%). The sales volume flattened out in maintenance and repair of motor vehicles after an increase of 1.3% in October.

Revisions

The variation in the sales volume of overall trade in October 2017 has been revised upwards by 0.1 points. Initially stated at −0.9%, it has been set at −0.8%.
