In June 2017, output fell back sharply in services (−1.4% after +2.1% in May) but it continued to increase markedly over a year.

The commentary shows variations of subsections by decreasing contribution to the overall variation. The contribution of a subsection depends on the extent of the change and on its weight.
In June 2017, output fell back sharply in services (−1.4% after +2.1% in May) but it continued to increase markedly over a year.
Services output increased slightly over the last three months
Over the last three months, services production rose by 0.4% compared to the previous three months.
It grew in business support (+0.9%), in information and communication (+0.9%) and in transportation and storage (+0.6%). By contrast, it fell back sharply in household services (−2.5%), particularly in arts, entertainment and recreation (−3.3%). To a lesser extent, it also went down in accomodation and food service activities (−0.5%) and real estate activities (−0.4%).
Output grew markedly over a year
In services, output of the last three months rose over a year by 4.3%, with an increase in all sectors.
Output went up strongly in business support (+5.2%), be it in administrative and business service activities (+5.9%) or in specialised, scientific and technical activities (+4.6%). It grew sharply in information and communication (+5.5%), accomodation and food service activities (+3.8%), transportation and storage (+3.5%) and household services (+2.5%). It grew more moderately in real estate activities (+0.9%).

Marked downturn in transportation and storage
In June, output in transportation and storage shrank sharply (−3.3%) after a similar rise of the same magnitude in May (+3.4%). It diminished significantly in water transport (−24.7% after −2.1). It fell back in warehousing and support for transportation (−2.8% after +4.0% in May).
Decrease in information and communication
After a rebound in May, output in information and communication fell back in June (−2.4% after +1.7%). It slipped back primarily in telecommunications (−4.2%) and in computer programming, consultancy and related activities (−1.3%).
Decline in business support
In June 2017, output in business support activities fell back (−1.8% after +3.6% in May).
It shrank in administrative and business support activities (−2.2% after +3.3%), notably in other administrative and business support activities (−8.1%) and in employment activities (−2.5%).
Output also slipped back in specialised, scientific and technical activities (−1.3% after +3.9%), particularly in advertising and market resarch (−8.8%) and scientific research and development (−4.5%)
Slight rebound in accomodation and food service activities
Output rebounded slightly in accomodation and food services in June (+0.5% after −1.2% in May). The increase was less marked in food and beverage service activities (+0.3%) than in accomodation (+1.3%).
Slight rise in household services
Output in household services increased slightly in June (+0.2%) after a significant downturn in May (−2.3%). It rose again in “other personal services” (+0.4% after +0.5%). In the arts, entertainment and recreation sector, the output was practically stable after a fall in May (−4.9%).
Revisions
The month-on-month variation rate of the index of services production in May 2017 has been lowered to +2.1% against +2.2% initially published, due to raw series revision.
