In January 2017, the number of business births for all entreprises rebounded after a downturn in December (+1.5% after −2.6%, seasonally and working-day adjusted). Start-ups excluding self-managed micro-entrepreneurs recovered (+1.1%) as well as micro-entrepreneurs' registrations (+2.0%).

+7.7% year on year (three months basis)
The raw amount of births added up in the fourth quarter speeded up sharply compared to the same period one year before (+7.7% after +2.0%). This rise concerns all categories of business start-ups : company births (+9.3%), sole proprietorship start-ups excluding self-managed micro-entrepreneurs (+7.5%) and micro-entrepreneurs' registrations (+6.4%). Business support activities and transportation were once again the sectors that contributed the most to the overall rise1.

+6.2% year on year (twelve months basis)
The raw number of business start-ups totted up during the last twelve months kept rising (+6.2% year on year after +5.5% in December and +5.7% in November). This growth was mostly due to company births (+9.8%) and sole proprietorships start-ups excluding self-managed micro-entrepreneurs (+9.6%). Micro-entrepreneurs' registrations picked up (+1.4% year-on-year) for the first time in two years.
Two business set-ups out of five are self-managed micro-entrepreneurs' registrations
In January 2017, micro–entrepreneurs' registrations amounted to 40.2% of the businesses set up over the twelve last months. One year before, the share was 42.1%.

Revisions
The variation in the overall number of business births in December 2016 has been raised by 0.4 points to −2.6% due to the update of the SA-WDA parameters.
