In April 2016, output recovered in the manufacturing industry (+1.3% after -1.0% in March), as well as in the whole industry (+1.2% after -0.4%).
Please note: all the series are seasonally (SA) and working-day adjusted (WDA).
The commentary shows variations of subsections by decreasing contribution. The contribution of a subsection depends on the extent of the change and on its weight.
In April 2016, output recovered in the manufacturing industry (+1.3% after −1.0% in March), as well as in the whole industry (+1.2% after −0.4%).
Manufacturing output diminished over the past three months (−1.2%)
Over the past three months, output diminished in the manufacturing industry (−1.2% q-o-q), and to a lesser extent in the overall industry (−0.6%).
Output decreased sharply in other manufacturing (−2.3%), in the manufacture of electrical and electronic equipment; machine equipment (−1.9%) and in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (−1.4%). It was stable in the manufacture of food products and beverages. Conversely, output jumped in mining and quarrying; energy; water supply (+3.6%) and in the manufacture of transport equipment (+2.7%).
Over the year, manufacturing output increased (+0.6%)
Manufacturing output of the past three months of 2016 improved compared to the same months of 2015 (+0.6%, y-o-y); so did overall industrial output (+0.5% y-o-y).
Over the year, manufacturing output soared in the manufacture of transport equipment (+5.6%). It was stable or virtually stable in the manufacture of food products and beverages (+0.1%), in the manufacture of electrical and electronic equipment (+0.1%), in mining and quarrying; energy; water supply (0.0%), and in other manufacturing (−0.1%). Conversely, it plummeted in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (−7.6%).

In April 2016, output rallied in “other manufacturing” (+1.2% after −0.9%)
Output bounced back in almost all branches within “other manufacturing”: strongly in other manufacturing repair and installation of machinery and equipment (+2.1%), and in the manufacture of textiles, wearing apparel (+5.1%), and more moderately in the manufacture of rubber and plastics products, and other non-metallic mineral products (+1.2%), in the manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment (+0.6%), and in chemicals (+0.9%).
Output jumped in the manufacture of transport equipment (+3.8% after −0.5%)
Output expanded at a much faster pace in the manufacture of other transport equipment (+4.5% after +1.5% in March). It recovered sharply in the manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (+3.0%) after a drop of a similar magnitude in March (−2.9%).
Output rebounded in the electrical and electronic equipment; machine equipment (+1.1% after −2.0%)
Output picked up markedly in the manufacture of machinery and equipment n.e.c. (+2.4% after −3.6%) and more moderately in the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (+0.5%), but faltered in the manufacture of electrical equipment (−0.2%).
Output slowed in mining and quarrying; energy; water supply; waste management (+0.5% after +3.7%)
Output slowed down in particular in electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning supply (+0.6% after +5.1%).
Output grew in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (+1.9% after +2.9%)
Output went up again in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (+1.9% after +2.9%).
Output dipped in the manufacture of food products and beverages (−0.5% after −1.0%)
Output weakened again in the manufacture of food products and beverages (−0.5% after −1.0%), in particular in the processing and preparation of meat.
