Producer price indices in French industry: 0.0% in September

On all markets (French market and foreign markets), prices were unchanged in September (following –1.0% in August). Year over year, they declined by 2.1% for the whole industry, mainly due to refined petroleum products (–35.1%).

FRENCH MARKET: +0.1%

In September 2015, French producer prices in industry for the French market remained virtually stable (+0.1% following –1.0% in August), the decrease of prices for refined petroleum products (–1.2%) and for other manufactured products (–0.5%) being offset by the rise of prices for mining and quarrying products, energy and water (+1.5%).

Slighter fall of prices for refined petroleum products

In September, prices for refined petroleum products declined anew, but less strongly than in August (–1.2% after –13.9%), in connection with almost stable oil prices. The decrease is more significant for super unleaded (–7.7%) than for other refined petroleum products.

Prices for other energy products grew

Prices for mining and quarrying products, energy, water recovered (+1.5% following –0.7% in August). Prices for the electricity wholesale market rebounded, due to higher demand. Conversely, gas prices dipped.

Near stability of food prices

Food prices flattened out in September (–0.1% after +0.3% in July and August). By products, prices ranged from +0.6% for butchers meat to –2.9% for oils and fats.

Prices for other manufactured products declined

In September, prices for other manufactured products dropped anew (–0.5% after –0.6% in August), this decrease is mainly due to chemical products. Producers of this sector reflected the past degradation of oil prices. In a lesser extent, prices for rubber products, basic metals and metallic products and pharmaceutical products declined too.

FOREIGN MARKETS: –0.3%

Producer prices of French industrial products sold on foreign markets fell anew (–0.3% after –1.1% in August). The drop concerned almost all main industrial sectors, especially refined petroleum products (–3.9%). Only prices for mining and quarrying products, energy and water increased (+6.7%).

Import price indices of industrial products: –0.5% in September

In September, import prices continued to decline (–0.5% after –1.5% in August). Prices decreased in all the main industrial sectors except for refined petroleum products (+0.3%), drawn by a rebound from prices for lubricating oils.
