Virtual stability in employment in Q4 2014, due to the increase in temporary employment (flash estimate) Flash estimate of payroll employment - 4th Quarter 2014

In Q4 2014, payroll employment in principally market sectors was virtually stable q-o-q (-5,100 jobs, 0.0%), after a decrease in the previous quarter (-55,200, -0.3%). Industry dropped this quarter at much the same pace as in Q3 2014 (-0.4%), as well as construction (-1.0%). By contrast, employment in services recovered (+0.2%, after -0.3%) due to temporary work. Excluding temporary work, employment in services remained almost stable over the quarter (-4,600), and increaseed slightly over a year (+15,700, +0.1%). Excluding temporary work, employment shrank over a year (-66,700 jobs, -0.4%).

Sharp increase in temporary employment which regained its end-2013 level

Temporary employment rocketed in Q4 2014 (+23,600 jobs, +4.6%), after an equivalent decrease in the previous quarter (–4.0%). It remained roughly stable year-on-year (-0.2%).
