In November 2009, the seasonally adjusted summary consumer confidence indicator recovers markedly and gains four points*. After a historically low confidence since 2008, we are back to slack levels of the last 15 years (1995, 1996 or 2005).

In November 2009, the seasonally adjusted summary consumer confidence indicator recovers markedly and gains four points*. After a historically low confidence since 2008, we are back to slack levels of the last 15 years (1995, 1996 or 2005).

Confidence indicator components: 3 to 5 points increases

The five components of the confidence indicator gain 3 to 5 points.

The appreciation by households of past and expected general economic situation improves as well as their appreciation of their past and expected personnal financial situation. The balance on the current environment for major purchases increases by 5 points.

Unemployment expectations are stable

Households expectations about unemployment decrease by 3 points. Yet, this improvement is of a lower magnitude than in the previous 4 months: from June to October unemployment had decreased by no less than 31 points.

Inflation expectations remain low

Despite previoulsy exposed improvements, inflation is still perceived to be lower than usual. In November, as well as for the last 6 months, consumers report a low past inflation and expect a low future inflation.
