Annual

The survey is conducted on an annual basis from February to April. The collection method used is a questionnaire administered by INSEE interviewers using a computer-assisted collection method (Capi) and, for personnal questions, based on a self-administrated questionnaire to guarantee the complete confidentiality of the responses.

Victim support associations have contributed their experience regarding the wording of these sensitive questions and the survey protocol. In order to enable people of foreign origin to respond, self-administrated questionnaire has been translated into Arabic, English, Portuguese, Turkish, the four languages most spoken in France by non-French speakers.

Household

The sample consists of 22 800 units (approximately 15,500 respondent households). In 2018, it includes an extension on priority areas.

People aged 14 years or older on January 1 of the year of the survey are surveyed (just one person per household).
