Over a month, output increased in most manufacturing branches
In September 2026*, output bounced back in the manufacture of transport equipment (+2.7% after ‑2.2%) due to the sharp upturn in manufacture of motor vehicles (+7.5% after ‑2.9%). Output increased again in the manufacture of electrical, electronic and computer equipment (+2.6% after +1.2%) where it reached its highest level since November 2023. Output bounced back in the food and beverage industries (+1.0% after -1.2%) and increased again in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (+6.0% after +3.5%)
Conversely, output fell back in the manufacture of “other industrial products” (metallurgy, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, etc.) (‑0.7% after +1.1%).
Output decreased again in mining and quarrying, energy, and water supply (‑3.8% after ‑2.8%) returning to its April 2026 level, prior to the increases linked to the heatwaves.

* All data in this publication are seasonally and working days adjusted (SA-WDA). In the commentary, percentage changes by sub-branches are presented, with some exceptions, in descending order of their contribution to the overall percentage change of the industrial production index. The contribution of a sub-branch takes into account its weight and the scale of its change.
The methodology used to build and calculate the industrial production index (IPI) is detailed in the “Documentation” tab of this publication.
