In August 2026, output in services was virtually stable (-0.1%), after an increase in July (+0.6%).
In August 2026, output in services was virtually stable (-0.1%), after an increase in July (+0.6%).
Over a month, declines in arts and entertainment and in administrative services were almost offset by increases in information and communication and in real estate activities
In August 2026*, output in arts, entertainment and recreation fell back sharply (-4.3% after +3.4%), mainly due to a payback effect in the performing arts sector following several months of exceptionally strong sales. It also fell back, but more moderately, in administrative and support services (-1.5% after +1.7%). Finally, output continued to decline in transportation and storage (-0.7% after -0.3%).
Conversely, output continued to increase significantly in information and communication (+1.1% after +1.2%) and in real estate activities (+1.7% after +0.6%). It rebounded in professional, scientific and technical activities (+0.5% after -0.8%) and increased again in accommodation and food service activities (+0.9% after +0.8%).

Output in services was up by 1.3% year on year
Cumulative output from June to August 2026 was 1.3% higher than over the same period a year earlier. It increased in most sectors, particularly in transportation and storage (+3.1%), in professional, scientific and technical activities (+1.4%) and in information and communication (+1.8%).
Revisions
The monthly change in the services production index for July 2026 has been revised upwards by 0.4 percentage points compared to the previous release (to +0.6% from +0.2%), due to the inclusion of late reports from companies during the summer holiday period, particularly in administrative services and real estate activities.
