Over a month, manufacturing output bounced back in the manufacture of “other industrial products” and in the manufacture of electrical, electronic and computer equipment
In August 2026*, output bounced back in the manufacture of “other industrial products” (metallurgy, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, etc.) (+1.2% after ‑1.2%) and more modestly in the manufacture of electrical, electronic and computer equipment (+0.9% after -1.6%). In the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products, output increased again, but at a slower rate (+3.3% after +8.3%)
Conversely, output declined in the manufacture of transport equipment (‑2.2% after ‑0.1%) and fell back in the food and beverage industries (‑1.2% after +0.4%).
Output fell back in mining and quarrying, energy, and water supply (‑2.4% after +0.2%), mainly due to a decrease in electricity production, after reaching its highest level since December 2021 in July.

* All data in this publication are seasonally and working days adjusted (SA-WDA). In the commentary, percentage changes by sub-branches are presented, with some exceptions, in descending order of their contribution to the overall percentage change of the industrial production index. The contribution of a sub-branch takes into account its weight and the scale of its change.
The methodology used to build and calculate the industrial production index (IPI) is detailed in the “Documentation” tab of this publication.
