In September 2026, consumer prices should increase by 3.0% year on year Consumer price index - provisional results - September 2026
These provisional results are only preliminary data. Accordingly, they should not be used for contractual revaluations. The indices published here are based on a limited set of price observations and from estimates of some rates of change for fares which are not yet available. The complete results will be published on 15 October 2026.
Over one year, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) should rise by 3.0% in September 2026, after +2.4% in August, according to the provisional estimate made at the end of the month. The prices of energy should accelerate again, driven by those of petroleum products and gas. Services inflation should increase slightly, mainly because off a less marked seasonal decrease in prices of accommodation and transport services than in September 2025. Meanwhile, the prices of food should also accelerate, notably fresh products, while the decrease in prices of manufactured products should softened. The prices of tobacco should rise over one year at the same pace as in the previous month.
Over one month, consumer prices should fall back by 0.3%, after +0.7% in August. This decrease should be explained by the seasonal drop in services prices after the summer period, primarily in transport and accommodation services. However, it should be largely offset by a further increase in energy prices, mainly those of petroleum products and gas. The prices of manufactured products should increase, as every year in September. Those of food should increase for the third consecutive month, once again driven by those of fresh products. Meanwhile, the prices of tobacco should be stable compared to August.
Year on year, the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices should rise by 3.4% in September 2026, after +2.6% in August. Over one month, it should decrease by 0.4%, after +0.7% in the previous month.
