In July 2026, sales volume in trade was virtually stable (-0.1%) Sales volume in wholesale and retail trade - July 2026
In July 2026, the volume of sales in trade was virtually stable over a month (-0.1%), after a 0.3% increase in June.
In July 2026, the volume of sales in trade was virtually stable over a month (-0.1%), after a 0.3% increase in June.
In July 2026, the rise in retail trade was offset by downturns in wholesale trade and motor vehicle trade
In July 2026*, the volume of sales accelerated in retail trade except that of motor vehicles and motorcycles (+0.8% after +0.4% in June), due to a further increase in sales in specialised stores (+1.0% after +1.2%) and a rebound in the volume of sales in non-specialised stores (+0.7% after -0.6%). Within specialised stores, the increase was mainly driven by “other goods in specialised stores” (pharmacies, clothing shops, shoe shops, etc.) (+2.0% after +1.4%) and by a further rise in automotive fuel (+1.6% after +4.2%). Conversely, the volume of sales in retail trade not in stores declined at almost the same pace as in June 2026 (-0.4% after -0.5%).
The volume of sales fell back in wholesale trade except that of motor vehicles and motorcycles (-0.4% after +0.4%). This decline was mainly driven by a contraction in sales in the wholesale trade of other machinery, equipment and supplies (-2.0% after -0.2%), by a decline in “other specialised wholesale” (fuels, wood, chemicals, etc.) (-1.3% after -1.1%), as well as by a downturn in the volume of sales in the wholesale trade of food, beverages and tobacco (-1.2% after +1.3%). Conversely, sales in the wholesale trade of information and communication equipment rebounded sharply (+5.2% after -2.0%).
Lastly, the volume of sales fell in the trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (-0.9% after stable sales in June). This decline was mainly attributable to the further decline in the sale of motor vehicles (-1.1% after -0.6%) and, to lesser extent, to a downturn in the sale of motor vehicle parts and accessories (-0.8% after +1.4%).
