In August 2026, consumer prices should increase by 2.4% year on year Consumer price index - provisional results - August 2026
These provisional results are only preliminary data. Accordingly, they should not be used for contractual revaluations. The indices published here are based on a limited set of price observations and from estimates of some rates of change for fares which are not yet available. The complete results will be published on 15 September 2026.
Over one year, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) should rise by 2.4% in August 2026, after +2.1% in July, according to the provisional estimate made at the end of the month. This rise in inflation should be mainly explained by the acceleration in the energy prices, primarily those of petroleum products. Over one year, the decline in the prices of manufactured products should ease again, and food prices should accelerate slightly. Conversely, the prices of services should slow down slightly over one year, while those of tobacco should rise over one year at the same pace as in the previous month.
Over one month, consumer prices should increase by 0.7%, after +0.6% in July. This further increase should be explained by the seasonal rebound in the prices of manufactured products, particularly those of clothing and footwear, after the decline in July linked to summer sales. The prices of energy should rise again, driven by those of petroleum products. The prices of food, particularly those for fresh food, should increase. The prices of services should be stable compared to July, as should those of tobacco.
Year on year, the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices should rise by 2.7% in August 2026, after +2.4% in July. Over one month, it should increase by 0.8%, after +0.6% in the previous month.
