In July 2026, consumer prices rose by 2.1% year on year Consumer price index - final results - July 2026

In July 2026, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose by 0.6% over one month, after ‑0.3% in June. The seasonal increase in services prices (+1.6% after +0.5%) is more pronounced than in 2025, particularly in transport services (+10.9% after +0.5%) and accommodation services (+12.7% after +8.6%). Energy prices rebounded from the previous month (+2.3% after ‑4.2%), driven both by petroleum products prices (+2.3% after ‑7.0%) and by gas prices (+6.6% after ‑2.7%). Conversely, the prices of manufactured products decreased compared to June (‑2.0% after ‑0.4%), because of the summer sales, particularly those in the clothing and footwear (‑9.8% after ‑1.7%). Food prices remained almost stable compared to their level in June (+0.1% after ‑0.3%).

Seasonally adjusted, consumer prices rebounded from the previous month by 0.5% in July 2026, after ‑0.4% in June.

Year on year, consumer prices rose by 2.1% in July 2026 after +1.8% in June. The increase in inflation was mainly driven by the acceleration in services (+2.2% after +1.9%) and energy prices (+12.6% after +11.0%). Over the year, the decline in manufactured products prices eased (‑0.7% after ‑1.1%). Food prices accelerated slightly (+1.0% after +0.9%), while tobacco prices rose at the same annual rate as in the previous month (+3.3%).

Year on year, core inflation (year-on-year change in the index) stood at +1.3% in July 2026, after +1.0% in June.

The Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) increased by 0.6% over one month, after ‑0.3% in June. Year on year, it rose by 2.4% after +2.0% in June.

This month, the difference between the year-on-year changes in the HICP and the CPI was 0.25 points after 0.26 points in June: 0.24 points of this gap were due to differences in the weightings of the two indices, and 0.01 points were due to differences in the trends between net and gross prices.

Year on year, the prices of services accelerated: +2.2% after +1.9% in June.

The prices of "other services" accelerated over one year (+2.5% after+2.1%), reflecting trends in accommodation services (+7.3% after +6.3%), catering services (+1.9% after +1.8%), and services for the maintenance, repair and security of the dwelling (+2.1% after +1.9%). Conversely, the prices of insurance services slowed down (+2.3% after +2.9%), and those of recreational services declined at a slightly faster pace than in the previous month (‑0.6% after ‑0.4%). Social protection prices (child care services, retirement homes for elderly persons and residences for disabled persons, services to maintain people in their private homes) increased at the same rate as in June (+2.8%).

Prices for communication services are rising at a faster pace over one year (+10.7 % after +7.7 %). This acceleration is due, on the one hand, to the month-on-month price increase recorded in July 2026 (+1.4 %), and, on the other hand, to a base effect: the month-on-month decline in July 2025 (‑1.3 %) is no longer included in the 12-month window used to calculate the year-on-year change.

The prices of transport accelerated over one year (+1.2% after +0.6%), particularly airfares (+1.7% after +0.8%) and transport by rail prices (+1.7% after+1.1%). Transport by road prices declined over one year at a faster pace than in June (‑0.7% after to ‑0.4%).

Conversely, the prices of health services slowed down slightly over one year (+0.2% after +0.4%), as did those of rent, water, and refuse collection (+1.9% after +2.0%).

Year on year, energy prices accelerated once again: +12.6% in July 2026, after +11.0% in June.

Gas prices accelerated sharply in July (+17.7% after +10.4%).

The prices of petroleum products also accelerated over one year (+20.7% after +19.7%), driven by those of diesel (+24.1% after +23.2%) and petrol (+16.5% after +14.4%), while liquid fuel prices slowed down again (+30.9% after +37.9%).

The decline in electricity prices intensified slightly (‑1.0% after ‑0.7%).

Year on year, the prices of manufactured products fell at a slower pace (‑0.7% after ‑1.1%), after a setback in June related to the summer sales schedule (See Methodological Note on the 2026 changes).

Year on year, the decline in health products prices slowed down (‑2.2% after ‑3.5%).

The prices of "other manufactured products" decreased by 0.1% over one year, after ‑0.3% in June. The prices of articles and products for personal care accelerated (+0.9% after +0.5%), as did those of furniture and furnishings (+1.1% after +0.6%), and those of newspapers, books and stationery (+2.4% after +2.0%). The decline in the prices of information and communication equipment eased (‑0.8% after ‑3.3%), as that in prices of non-durable household goods (‑0.4% after ‑1.0%). Conversely, the prices of parts for personal transport edged down (‑0.2% after +0.1%), and those of jewellery and watches slowed down (+11.3% after +12.1%). Vehicle prices remained stable over a year, as in June.

The prices of clothing and footwear declined over one year at a faster rate than in the previous month (‑2.9% after ‑2.3%).

Year on year, food prices accelerated slightly: +1.0% after +0.9% in June.

The prices of fresh products accelerated over one year (+3.8% after +2.7%), particularly those of fresh leafy or stem vegetables (lettuce, endive, etc.; +8.0% after +3.7%) and those of "other fresh fruits" (melons, watermelons, etc.; +6.1% after +2.4%). The prices of fresh stone fruits and pome fruits declined at a slower pace (‑1.4% after ‑3.2%). Conversely, the prices of fresh fruit-bearing vegetables slowed down over a year (tomatoes, courgettes, etc.; +13.1% after +13.4%), as did those of fresh citrus fruits (+3.6% after +4.6%).

The prices of food excluding fresh products rose over one year at the same rate as in June (+0.6%). The acceleration in prices of sugar, jam, honey, chocolate, and confectionery (+1.0% after +0.8%), alcoholic beverages (+0.3% after stability), and non-alcoholic beverages (+1.5% after +1.3%), as well as the smaller decline in prices of oils and fats (‑1.1% after ‑1.3%), were offset by the slowdown in the prices of meat (+2.3% after +2.6%), milk, other dairy products, and eggs (+0.2% after +0.3%), and bread and cereals (0.0% after +0.1%).

Year on year, in hyper and supermarkets, the prices of industrial food, cleaning and hygiene/beauty products remained stable in July, after ‑0.1% in June. Those of industrial food were stable, as in June. The prices of cleaning and hygiene/beauty products sold in hyper and supermarkets fell at a slower pace than in the previous month (‑0.2% after ‑0.7%).

Compared to the provisional estimates published on 31 July 2026, CPI and HICP year-on-year and month-on-month changes have been confirmed.
