Over a month, manufacturing output fell again in all major branches
In June 2026*, output declined again across all major branches of the manufacturing industry. It fell again in the manufacture of transport equipment (‑3.8% after ‑2.1%), in the manufacture of “other industrial products (metallurgy, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, etc.)” (‑0.6% after ‑0.4%), in the food and beverage industries (‑0.8% after ‑0.3%), and in the manufacture of electrical, electronic and computer equipment (‑0.3% after ‑2.8%).
Output dropped sharply again in coke and refined petroleum products (‑12.0% after ‑11.7%) due to the shutdown of a refinery for maintenance and reduced production during the heatwave.
Unlike the manufacturing industry, output accelerated sharply in mining and quarrying, energy, and water supply (+3.8% after +2.9%), driven by higher electricity consumption during the heatwave.

Over a year, output was up by 1.9% in the second quarter in the industry as a whole
Output in the second quarter of 2026 was higher than that of the same quarter of the previous year in the whole industry (+1.9%) and in the manufacturing industry (+1.1%).
Over this period, output increased in mining and quarrying, energy, and water supply (+4.8%), in the manufacture of transport equipment (+4.7%), in the manufacture of “other industrial products (metallurgy, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, etc.)” (+0.5%), and in the manufacture of electrical, electronic and computer equipment (+1.5%). In coke and refined petroleum products, a sector with a smaller economic weight than the others, output rose sharply over one year (+8.0%). Conversely, it declined in the food and beverage industries (‑0.7%).
Over a month, output fell back sharply in construction
In June 2026, output fell back sharply in construction (‑2.9% after +1.2%). It fell back in specialised construction activities (‑2.6% after +1.3%), in civil engineering (‑5.1% after stability in May), and in building construction (‑3.4% after +1.5%).
Output in construction for the second quarter of 2026 was 2.9% lower than that of the same quarter a year earlier.
