In May 2026, output in services fell back slightly (-0.2%), following a rise in April (+0.5%).
In May 2026, output in services fell back slightly (-0.2%), following a rise in April (+0.5%).
Over a month, output in services declined in more than half of the main sectors
In May 2026*, output fell back in information and communication (-1.0% after +1.4%) and in transportation and storage (-1.0% after +2.4%). It declined in administrative and support service activities (-0.7% after -0.1%) and, to a lesser extent, in accommodation and food service activities (-0.2% after +0.3%).
Conversely, output rebounded in real estate activities (+2.0% after -1.6%) and in professional, scientific and technical activities (+0.5% after -0.6%). It slowed down in arts, entertainment and recreation (+0.5% after +2.0%).

Output in services was up by 1.6% year on year
Cumulative output from March to May 2026 was 1.6% higher than over the same period a year earlier. It increased in a majority of sectors, particularly in professional, scientific and technical activities (+2.5%), transportation and storage (+3.3%) and information and communication (+2.7%).
Conversely, output declined year on year in administrative and support service activities (-0.2%) and in arts, entertainment and recreation (-1.9%).
Revisions
The monthly change in the services production index for April 2026 has been revised upwards by 0.3 percentage points compared to the previous release and now stands at +0.5% (after rounding).
