The business climate remains deteriorated in every sub-sectors of services
In June 2026, the business climate indicator in information-communication has slightly rebounded and has moved closer to its long-term average. In particular, the balance on expected activity has rebounded and those on the workforce size, past and expected, have risen, but the three of them remain below their average.
In professional, scientific and technical activities, the business climate indicator has rebounded, after three months of stability, while remaining below its long-term average. The forward-looking balances on activity and on workforce size have sharply risen but remain below their average.
In administrative and support services, the business climate indicator is stable, well below its average. The rise in the balances on the business outlook for the sector and on expected demand is offset by the decrease in those related to activity and to workforce size.
In real estate activities, the business climate indicator has lost one point and has reached, below its average, its lowest level since December 2023. In particular, the balance on expected workforce size has diminished for the fifth month in a row.
In accommodation and food services, the business climate indicator has slightly rebounded after its last month drop, but remains deteriorated. The balances on the business outlook for the sector, but above all on past activity and on expected demand have sharply rebounded. Those on workforce size, past as expected, have sharply deteriorated. All remain below their average.
Finally, the business climate indicator in road freight transport is stable, below its average level. This rise in the balances on activity, on expected workforce size and on the business outlook for the sector is compensated by the sharp decrease in the one on demand.

Revision
The business climate indicator in services of May has not been revised (after rounding).
For further information
The composite indicators of business climate presented here are estimated independently of one another. Thus, that of the whole services cannot be deduced from the others. The same balances of opinion are included into their calculations, but they are not assigned the same weightings. Also, the indicators are scaled to have a long-run average of 100 and a standard deviation of 10. The climate series do not have the same historical beginning, so their standardisation differs slightly. Discrepancies June therefore appear from time to time.
For the three-modality questions, a balance of opinion is calculated as the difference between the weighted percentage of “increase” responses and the weighted percentage of “decrease” responses.
This survey is part of the Joint Harmonised EU Programme of Business and Consumer Surveys, partly funded by the European Commission.
The responses to this survey were collected between 27 May and 18 June 2026; most companies answer during the first two weeks of collection.
Additional information (simplified and detailed methodology, nomenclature, etc.) is available on the “Documentation” tab of the web page of this publication.
