The synthetic indicator has risen from 89 to 90 (after rounding), but remains well below its long-term average (100). This slight increase mainly results from the slight rebound in the balances related to ordering intentions and general business outlook.

The balance of opinion related to ordering intentions has slightly recovered
In June 2026, the balance of opinion related to ordering intentions has slightly rebounded, while remaining below its long-term average. The balance related to general business outlook has also picked up, but still remains below its own. Conversely, the balance related to past sales has slightly fallen back, standing below its average. The one related to expected sales has barely deteriorated and remains below its own.
The balance of opinion related to the current level of stocks has slightly retreated, while remaining above its average.
The balance on expected selling prices has fallen back returning to its April level, still well above its long-term average.
The balances related to expected and past workforce size have sharply deteriorated and have moved below their respective average.
Lastly, the balance on felt economic uncertainty has rebounded and has moved back above its long-term average.

In June 2026, the business climate in retail trade, excluding motor vehicles, has gained four points and stands at 93. However, it remains below its long-term average (100). The balances of opinion related to ordering intentions, general business outlook and past sales have rebounded, but all remain below their respective average. The balances on past and expected workforce size have sharply deteriorated.
In trade and repair of motor vehicles, the business climate has deteriorated for the third month in a row: it has lost two points and stands at 89, well below its average. The balance of opinion related to ordering intentions is virtually stable, while the one related to general business outlook has slightly recovered. Both remain well below their respective average. For the three-modality questions, a balance of opinion is the difference between weighted percentage of “increase” or “above normal” answers and weighted percentage of “decrease” or “below normal” answers.
