Over a month, manufacturing output increased again, driven by the manufacture of transport equipment
In April 2026*, output increased again, but slowed down in the manufacturing industry (+0.4% after +1.3%). Output accelerated in the manufacture of transport equipment (+3.3% after +2.2%), while it increased again in the coke and refined petroleum products (+0.6% after +6.5%) where it reached its highest level since 2019. Output remained stable in the food and beverage industries (after +1.1% in March).
However, output fell back in the manufacture of electrical, electronic, and computer equipment (‑0.4% after +1.2%) and in the manufacture of “other industrial products (metallurgy, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, etc.)” (‑0.1% after +1.1%).
In mining and quarrying, energy, and water supply, output also fell back (‑0.9% after +1.6%), mainly due to the downturn in electricity output and distribution, because of average temperature 2.3°C above the normal level for the month of April.

* All data in this publication are seasonally and working days adjusted (SA-WDA). In the commentary, percentage changes by sub-branches are presented, with some exceptions, in descending order of their contribution to the overall percentage change of the industrial production index. The contribution of a sub-branch takes into account its weight and the scale of its change.
The methodology used to build and calculate the industrial production index (IPI) is detailed in the “Documentation” tab of this publication.
