In May 2026, consumer prices increased by 2.4% year on year Consumer price index - provisional results - May 2026
These provisional results are only preliminary data. Accordingly, they should not be used for contractual revaluations. The indices published here are based on a limited set of price observations and from estimates of some rates of change for fares which are not yet available. The complete results will be published on 12 June 2026.
Over one year, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) should rise by 2.4% in May 2026, after +2.2% in April, according to the provisional estimate made at the end of the month. As in March and April, the increase in inflation should be driven by the acceleration in energy prices, caused this month by a sharp rise in gas prices. Prices of services should accelerate over a year, but to a lesser extent. The prices of food should rise at the same pace as in the previous month, as should those of manufactured products and those of tobacco.
Over one month, consumer prices should increase for the fourth month in a row: +0.1%, after +1.0% in April. This slight increase in prices should be explained by the increase in prices of energy, driven by those of gas while those of petroleum products should decrease slighly, and in prices of food, particularly those of fresh products. The prices of manufactured products should increase slightly over one month, while those of services should be stable, as should those of tobacco.
Year on year, the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices should rise by 2.8% in May 2026, after +2.5% in April. Over one month, it should increase by 0.1%, after +1.2% in the previous month.
