In March 2026, consumer prices increased by 1.7% year on year Consumer price index - provisional results - March 2026
These provisional results are only preliminary data. Accordingly, they should not be used for contractual revaluations. The indices published here are based on a limited set of price observations and from estimates of some rates of change for fares which are not yet available. The complete results will be published on 15 April 2026.
Over a year, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) should rise by 1.7% in March 2026, after +0.9% in February, according to the provisional estimate made at the end of the month. The increase in inflation should be driven by the sharp rebund in energy prices (+7.3% over a year after -2.9% in February), in particular those of petroleum products. Prices of services should accelerate slightly over a year, as should those of tobacco. Conversely, the prices of manufactured products should fall deeper than in February, and those of food should decelerate slightly over one year.
Over one month, consumer prices should increase by 0.9% in March 2026, after +0.6% in February. This increase in prices should be explained by higher energy prices, driven by the prices of petroleum products (diesel, petrol and liquid fuels). Food prices should increase slightly over one month, as should those of tobacco. Month on month, the prices of manufactured products should slow down compared to February, as should those of services.
Year on year, the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices should rise by 1.9% in March 2026, after +1.1% in February. Over one month, it should increase by 1.1%, after +0.7% in the previous month.
