Warning

These provisional results are only preliminary data. Accordingly, they should not be used for contractual revaluations. The indices published here are based on a limited set of price observations and from estimates of some rates of change for fares which are not yet available. The complete results will be published on 18 February 2026.

In accordance with European regulations, from January 2026 onwards, consumer price indices are published in 2025 base, i.e. their average value is 100 over 2025. This change of base will be accompanied by an update of the ECOICOP household consumption functions classification.

Over a year, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) should rise by 0.3% in January 2026, after +0.8% in December 2025, according to the provisional estimate made at the end of the month. The fall in inflation should mainly be due to a more pronounced decline in prices of manufactured products, driven by a downturn in those of clothing and footwear. The collection period includes 18 days of sales, compared with 13 in January 2025. In addition, prices for services should slow down, particularly health services, as increases in doctors' fees should be more limited than last year. The prices of energy should decrease at a faster pace than in December, and those of tobacco should slow down due to base effect. Conversely, food prices should accelerate slightly.

Over one month, consumer prices should fall by 0.3% in January 2026, after +0.1% in December. This fall in prices should be explained by the seasonal fall in prices of manufactured goods, due to sales in clothing and footwear. Conversely, food prices should rise over one month, as should those of energy and tobacco. Services prices should be stable compared to December.

Year on year, the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices should rise by 0.4% in January 2026, after +0.7% in December. Over one month, it should fall back by 0.4%, after +0.1% in the previous month.
