In October 2025, the volume of sales in trade was virtually stable over a month (-0.1%), after stability in September.

In October 2025, sales volume declined in wholesale trade and in trade of motor vehicles, while it increased in retail trade

In October 2025*, the volume of sales in the wholesale trade except that of motor vehicles and motorcycles fell slightly over a month (-0.2% after stability in September). In particular, it fell back sharply in the trade of information and communication equipment (-3.0% after +1.1%) and continued to decline in “other machinery, equipment and supplies (agricultural machinery, machine tools, machinery for the textile industry, etc.)” (-1.4% after -0.6%). Conversely, it bounced back sharply in “other specialised wholesale (fuels, wood, chemicals, etc.)” (+2.0% after -2.1%).

The volume of sales declined again in the trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (-0.4% after -0.2%), mainly due to the downturn in sales of motor vehicles (-0.4% after +0.2%) and the decrease in sales of motor vehicle parts and accessories (-0.5% after ‑0.1%).

Lastly, the volume of sales increased in retail trade except that of motor vehicles and motorcycles (+0.4% after +0.1%). It grew again in specialised stores (+0.9% after +0.5%), driven by a further increase in “other goods in specialised stores (pharmacies, clothing shops, shoe shops, etc.)” (+0.9% after +1.0%) and picked up in retail trade not in stores (+0.9% after -0.1%). Conversely, it declined again in non specialised stores (-0.4% after -0.7%).

From August to October 2025, the volume of sales increased by 1.9% compared to the same three months a year before

The cumulative volume of sales of the three months under review (August to October 2025) in overall trade was 1.9% higher than that of the same period a year earlier. It rose sharply in wholesale trade (+1.9%) as well as in the retail trade (+2.2%). It also increased, though more moderately, in the trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (+1.1%).

Within the retail trade, sales grew year on year in specialised stores (+3.2%) and in non-specialised stores (+1.4%). Conversely, they declined in retail trade not in stores (-0.7%).
