Over a month, output downturn in the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods was almost offset by the increase in the other sectors of manufacturing industry

In October 2025*, output fell back in the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (‑2.2% after +1.1%): it decreased particularly in manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (-3.5% after -3.2%).

On the contrary, output accelerated in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (+3.6% after +1.3%). It was virtually stable in the “other manufacturing industries (manufacture of basic metals, chemical industry, pharmaceutical industry, etc.)” (+0.1% after -0.2%) and in the manufacture of food products and beverages (+0.1% after +0.3%). Finally, output stalled in the manufacture of transport equipment (+0.1% after +5.3%): output increased again in the manufacture of other transport equipment (+2.4% after +7.2%), but it fell back in the manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (-4.0% after +2.1%)

In mining and quarrying, energy, water supply, output increased (+1.8%), after remaining stable in September 2025.

Over a year, manufacturing output was up by 1.1%

In the manufacturing industry, cumulative output over the last three months (August to October 2025) was higher than that of the same three months of the previous year in the manufacturing industry (+1.1%), as well as in the whole industry (+1.1%).

Over this one-year period, output increased sharply in the manufacture of transport equipment (+10.6%) and in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (+5.7%). Output increased more modestly in mining and quarrying, energy, water supply (+1.1%) and in the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (+0.7%).

On the contrary, it went down in the manufacture of food products and beverages (‑2.6%) and, to a lesser extent, in the “other manufacturing industries (manufacture of basic metals, chemical industry, pharmaceutical industry, etc.)” (‑0.5%).

Over one month, output decreased by 0.6% in construction

In October 2025, output in construction fell again (‑0.6% after ‑1.3% in September). It fell again in the specialised construction activities (‑0.9% after ‑1.0%) and in the construction of buildings (‑1.8% after ‑5.3%). However, output in construction bounced back in the civil engineering (+2.4% after ‑1.5%).

Cumulative output in the construction over the last three months (August to October 2025) was lower than that of the same three months of the previous year (‑1.4%).

* All data in this publication are seasonally and working days adjusted (SA-WDA). In the commentary, percentage changes by sub-branches are presented, with some exceptions, in descending order of their contribution to the overall percentage change of the industrial production index. The contribution of a sub-branch takes into account its weight and the scale of its change.

The methodology used to build and calculate the industrial production index (IPI) is detailed in the “Documentation” tab of this publication.
